Yep...believe it or not I'm giving the Explorer yet another try after many long years of Sovereign use. No matter how long I've used the Sovereign though, I still can't get away from that nagging feeling I'm leaving some of the good stuff behind. Got another used Explorer XS coming with 5" and 8" Sunray coils to go along with the stock 10.5" and all the updates for the cracking problems have been done. Now if I could just find a good used Sunray 12" coil...Anyway, even when I was using my beloved Sov, I always had to grudgingly admit the Explorer was a better machine and indeed it PROVED it was at a few of my "hunted-to-death" sites. Maybe I'll wise up and stick with it a little while this time! PS.Mike Moutray...I am in humble AWE of the incredible finds you have been producing! You are, without a doubt, the most proficient user I have ever seen with this awesome machine. Congrats on the Minelab ad (well-deserved) and keep up the great work with the finds and the helpful lessons such as the page you posted on Explorer set-up (a must read!)Good to be back and HH to all! Actually I've only had my explorer for a month. I've used it for 4 complete charges though. I hated it the first few hours. It seemed that after about 8 hours (maybe more...i dunno) things just started clicking. One incident made me a true explorer believer. I took both my Explorer and Eldorado to an old house that probably dated back to the late 1800's. I started out using my eldorado (Stop throwing debris please!) and dug junk junk junk. I fired up my Explorer with the minelab 8" coil and proceded to hunt with a modified quickstart mode (coin program with manual sensitivity set to 28, recovery set to fast and deep, variability 10, contrast 9. I hunted real slow...real slow. Even though I lost my threshold 70% of the time I still found one shield nickel, one roosevelt silver dime, and one indian head penny...plus some other odds and ends including 3 wheaties. I didn't dig near as much junk. I checked the signal on the indian head and and the shield nickel with my eldorado. Evidently junk masked out the nickel and it gave a weak pop on the indian head (i wouldn't have dug it). Now having said that, if I were to go to one of my fave plowed fields for WNA relics I'd take my eldorado because I can hunt much faster and it doesn't lose depth on disturbed ground.

I think you will be back to the Sovereign before long as it is hard to put the Sovereign down. You may be like me and have them both as i want the finds the Explorer is getting by others, but like how easy the Sovereign is poping the goodies out.
Started out bad this year with the Explorer as in 3 time out with a hour each time I have 2 new pennies and 2 new dimes and a whole pouch full of junk.
Good luck George, I hope you do well with the Explorer you have comming.
Rick
