......SILVER! OK-these were not found with my detector but since I have an Xterra I'm posting it here anyway! Hope that counts.
Today I had to go by the bank to withdraw money. I remembered I had a check in my wallet for $8.50 that I had not cashed for well over a month..no big deal. When I got my envelope I took out the cash and went to dump the change. I heard a 'clink' sound in the envelope and thought 'what the...?' Then suddenly I REMEMBERED the sound silver coins make when clinking together!!! The teller had given me two silver quarters dated 1942 and 1954 respectively! I sat there dumbfounded while the teller moved to another window to help other customers. It's UNHEARD of to get 2 silver coins in change nowadays in the age of coin counters and vending machines kicking them out because of weight. Not to mention every coin enthusiast on the lookout for these coins. I finally 'snapped to' and got the teller's attention. When she came over I asked her about the quarters in her cash drawer and told her I would buy all she had dated 1964 and earlier. In all she handed me $7.50 in face value silver quarters!! WOOHOO!!
I need to get a numismatist to help with the grading of these coins, but I have 2 1964's that appear to be uncirculated, and the total of 13 1964's all are in very good condition. Others vary in condition and probably wouldn't command the (hopefully) $12/each that the 64's MAY be worth. I have the redbook but again, am not sure how to interpret grades.
I have 13 1964 coins, 5 1963, 3 1961, 1 1960 and various 50's going to as old as 1934!!!!
Man I can't WAIT to go back tomorrow to buy some rolls of quarters! While I'm at it, I'm going to pick up some rolls of half dollars just for luck.
