I went to the local grade school that is about 5-6 blocks from my house. When I first started this hobby last May, I was told that school yard had been heavily detected. I said to myself "Self, (That is what I call me) kids still lose things, why don't you give it a try."

Well I found a round metallic object with a bovine looking creature on one side and a fellow with a big nose and a pigtail on the other. It is quite corroded, being under a fir tree, I believe the acid secretions from the needles accelerated the corrosion of the disk.

I next found a small gold ring with a tiny ruby in it. I ain't a gold virgin no more!!!

So the lesson learned is that when someone tells you that an area has been searched, search there anyway.

Batteries died, so I had to come home. I would have swapped out the reserve batteries but my Panasonic charger must have over-charged them for they both swelled-up and are now unusable. Another lesson learned... Don't rely upon a charger's anti-overcharging circuits.

Was you expecting to find a ring????? It's amazing how that woks out... Comgrats:thumbup:

Actually I was expecting to find pull tabs, shredded beverage cans and gum wrappers. Mostly I found those aluminum wires that hold chain-link fences to the polls. There are iron objects buried 8" deep and deeper, so I suspect that prior to the school being built in the 1960s, there were old homes at that location. I only detected about 4% of it today, so I have a lot of work cut out for me in the next few weeks.

BTW, I used the Elite 2200. It can PP to within a 3" dia circle using the Xing method.

Check with your local hobby shop and ask about one of the chargers we use for RC planes. Worth their weight in gold. You can cycle batts with them also.

Way to go, Self. I thought you were going to tell us you found a wheat penny or the Cubs won the World Series. If that school was built in the 60's, that Wheatie is there waiting for you. How come the ground up there isn't frozen rock hard?

Dave, we are close to Puget Sound and the winters are very mild. This one, for the past 50 days has been exceptionally warm.

:usmc: Congrats Mark. Now it's time to go to work on this place.

Today, I detected two places not but a 1/4 mile of each other that are heavily used by steelhead fisherman. Found plenty of lead, a couple of swivels, a new very sharp barbed fishing hook, and some pennies. The one location though had evidence it had been detected. The dig holes were not filled back in but it's just a rough dirt parking area of sorts. Funny part besides all the lead I picked up was the pennies I found, some not dug and to the side of the holes. Guess it could have been some were Zinc and did not want them but I still found copper also. I'm certain they were dig holes as two were deep and my 505 was sounding on them though I could not find what was in them. May need to go back with a shovel as they were pretty good readings in the Silver range.

I'm going to try and work a place tomorrow that the collage kids use in the summer to camp and lounge around along the river. I'm told the girls tend to lose all kinds of rings and jewelery there.

Well, I'm glad to hear you hit a spot and again Congrats. Keep us informed.

I'll bet those girls lost ALL sorts of things there. Sounds like a good place to go....and detect, I mean. Good Luck.
