I HAD a Tejon about a year ago, used it,liked it, sold it. Now, I have been using the Minelab X Terra 70 and the 705 for about 4 years with really good results, its a GREAT detector. When I got my first Tejon, I gave it a try, maybe about 8 hours worth. I liked the weight ( its the same as the XT, with different balance) speed and depth. What I didn't like, or should say, was not used to was the lack of tones (I use all of them) and the ID. The thing is, I really enjoyed the Tejon, it was FUN to use. I just kept thinking that I was missing something, you know, you're not getting any good targets, so you reach for the machine that's been good to you. But I kept the Tejon in mind, and have another one coming next week. I have decided to make this the summer of the Tejon ( if the 3+ feet on snow ever leaves), its all I am going to use. In the brief time I had with the first one, I was starting to get a little of what it was saying to me, I guess I just got impatient with not "seeing" the target. In the 8 or so hours I used it, I had found 2 rings and an 1736 copper at about 10 inches, so I know how well it works, I just need some time to really learn it. I think I'm going to set it up as I did last time, 1st disc at foil,2nd at tab, and see where it takes me. If anyone wants to pass on another way to go on setup, I will listen. So its official, I will be lurking here for a while.

will be looking forward to your results

Set it to where the second disc setting noticeably breaks up-more than just a slight "click" and then whenever you get a signal an d pull the trigger:
(1) If it goes silent, it's in the nickel range
(2) If it breaks up-it's in the tab range
(3) If it still sounds-it's in the coins range.
A notch discriminator! The setting of the tabs to where they noticeably break up also gives more depth on silver and helps find coins mixed with tabs.:super:

I understand the tendency to wonder about what you may be missing without tones or TID as I have several TID machines myself. However, I started out with beep and dig machines and have become fairly good at deciding if a target is trash or better by thumbing the disc knob. To me, the 2 separate disc settings would be a big plus, but as you are saying, you'll have to use it enough to get used to it and to have faith in what it's telling you. However, I'm betting that when you do get comfortable/proficient with that system, you'll see that it can serve nearly as well as the tones and/or TID systems.
