I bought a 14" Excell. coil for the MXT. Had to sell
my small Shooter DD, but what the heck, thought I'd
give it a shot. JW was good to deal with BTW,actually
worked a deal for coil and some more goodies. I'll
let ya know how it does. If it does well, I may keep
it and let the 6 x 10 go. We'll find out in a few
day. Best to all, Richard 'n Tn.

I too just bought a 14" coil from JW for my MXT. Have not used it yet, weather is too bad "RAIN". Let me know how you do with yours, anything I should know. I can see I will have problem with pinpointing target, may be it will get some getting ust to, it's not like the stock coil.

Richard, I think what most of us really want to know is how well it does IN-GROUND, with QUANTITATIVE comparisons between it ans the stock coil, on known targets. In other words, if your MXT, with the stock coil, can get dimes to 9 inches, nail-level reject, optimally tuned, how deep will the Excellerator do, also with the same settings? Thanks in advance! HH jim

honest appraisal of this coil. I know what the
950 will do, the 6 x 10, and I will give you a
"in the trenches" comparison. Richard 'n Tn

Jim,
I dont have much of a test bed, I have a nickel dime and a quarter buried at a measured 7 inches, I cant get then with the stock in any mode no matter what settings, however I can locate and id all 3 with the 14 inch coil. A small grassy area I look at a school between a side walk and the gravel play area produced alot of coins with the stock coil, I got nothing over 5 inches. I ran coin mode gain on 9 disc 0n 3. Went back with the 14 inch coil relic mode gain on 9 disc on 3 trigger forward found many more coins that the stock missed and got a 1934 wheatie at 7 inches and dug 2 dimes at 8 1/2 to 9 inches the id'ed properly. The ex coil put the stock to shame in trash and handles iron better and naturally with the larger size you get more coverage. Wish I had more on the depth for you but that is all I have for now. Pin pointing. On the coil there is a label that says for dfx. Pin point while in primary search mode using the x method then pull the P/P trigger and the target will be just behind this label. It takes getting used to but is very easy once learned. In air test the ex coil gets 1 1/2 to 2" deeper on all targets. So in short you get more coverage, better seperationand more depth, how much more depth is still in testing but an inch or 2 can mean alot in places. So if the 6x10 is comparible to the stock on depth, the 14 will get it on depth also. I know a lot of you love the little whites 4x6, I had one, decent little coil, but if you want to really see a super little trash coil that I know for a fact will sound off good on a six inch wheat penny, try the 5 inch ex coil. Go back and read Monte's post on this coil. Also Toddy Irvin Burried a brass ring he found and the stock would not get it further than 7 inches, he then put on the 14 inch coil using lower gain and still got the same ring at 10 inches then had to raise the coil before it stopped responding. Just a note, If you decide to try one of these coils and don't like it you can always return it. When I first started detecting I went through 4 detecters in 3 months, If I got something and did not like the way it worked I sent it back or sold it, I got this big coil and it has not been off the MXT but a couple times and that was just long to try the 5 inch coil inch some heavy trash areas and it did great. And the big coil stays on my mxt, since I got this big coil I honestly have no need for the stock coil, I find more coins, deeper coins and my mxt runs smoother don't know what else I could want for. Thats all I have for now. DW will also testify to this coils depth, He is even going to get the 18 inch to get even deeper, Now he seems to be an old pro at this hobby and don't seem to me someone like that would invest into another bigger one of the coils if it were not something there he liked. Alls I can say is if you don't try one you'll never know what ya missed. <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug">
