Anybody know if I can just order a replacement front cover for the at pro without having to ship it back to the factory? This was one of the first ones, and is way out of warranty. I have this bad habit of kneeling by a target, putting the detector down, and then pulling my lesche out and whacking the screen. You'd think that after having sent this back not once, but twice for the same problem, I'd stop. Have a nice little crack directly across the vdi readout. I had a cover on it, so oddly enough, it didn't damage the plastic film over the cover, but cracked the plastic cover itself. I'm not overly concerned about it being waterproof, because I don't water hunt.

The screens on pretty near all Pro's rather have a rainbow across the screen or a line looking like a crack. It's something that just is. Not saying yours isn't cracked. But maybe not. Run your finger across it carefully to make sure. Now if there's no doubt, well case closed.

If it is cracked and you occasionally hunt in the rain or get caught in the rain it could leak. Good luck! HH jim tn

Hadn't even thought about moisture getting in... Looks like it's time to call Garrett for an RMA.

I do that all the damn time to!! lucky there is a sticker over the real front cover. Maybe you can see if you can get a sticker if you didn't penetrate the front cover completely

I'm glad to know it isn't just me! This time it is really strange. I must have hit the screen with the handguard of the lesche. I keep a cover on it just for such an occasion, but it actually looks like the sticker was undamaged, but the hard plastic cracked under the sticker. My machine hasn't been in for a checkup in over a year, so I guess I should go ahead and ship it. Naturally this has to happen just as the weather is getting really nice.

I would just keep it "as is" or do a minor repair to keep the rain out.. You are probably due for a new machine anyways, so keep it for a backup or extra to hunt with a buddy!

I think that's a great idea... been wanting an excuse to buy an at gold anyway. Silly question though, do the electronics deteriorate over time with these things? The last time I sent it in for a tune-up they replaced one of the boards, as well as the housing. It works perfectly, aside from the abuse I have subjected it to. I purchased it in 2010, so it is getting rather old, but it went back in when they had the rodlock upgrade, as well as a software upgrade. As far as I know, they are using the same software now that they were using in 2015, aren't they?

Yes, electronics do go bad, some parts grow things called gremlins. I am not making this up lol you can google it. It makes some electric parts short out, not saying you have the issue but it is a possibility over a long period of time. Other then something causing a short I don't see how electronics can fail in the AT Pro since they don't receive a large load.

I'm all too familiar with gremlins! Between motorcycles and British made cars, I think I may have a colony of them living in my garage.

I suspect over time all electronic devices change. The components can dry out, oxidize, or change from constant temperature changes or get damaged from from physical trauma. Some of these changes can be corrected by automatic built in circuits.

https://youtu.be/MninZwJO7ys this is a link that will show you how to take the machine apart and inspect it, replace parts or just clean the inside

I would just order a new decal for the front of your screen and also a new plastic screen from Garrett.
They could ship those parts to you in an envelope.
Just follow the video above and fix your machine yourself.

I think that is exactly what I am going to do. I have been using it as is since it happened, and haven't seen any moisture problems, but it still drives me crazy when I look at the screen.
