Well, got out a little after church today...

I picked up some Black Widow headphones and wanted to try them out (great headphones by the way). While I was going by the ballfield I occasionally hunt, lo and behold there's another guy hunting (which would explain my lack of finds :) ). In two years of doing this, he's the first one I've ever seen MD'ing.

I stopped and talked with him and we both met up at another park. Sure nice to have someone to hunt with... We hunted a pretty trashy area (with lots of deep crushed aluminum cans) that gave up some clad but not much. I did find a '52 wheatie though. A lot of the clad was 60's and 70's so there's got to be some silver there somewhere. Picked up one silver Washington there this past spring.

Jim, if you're out there, hope we can meet up again. I'd like to hit some of the places you were talking about. Glad to hear you're an early bird like me and don't mind hunting in the winter. Anyone who'd go out there with a pick axe to hack through the permafrost, just so he can hunt, is my kinda guy

Maybe next time we'll hit some silver.

Glad you could get out, Joe, and found a partner....because it is always better and safer to have someone to hunt with and hope you both get to detect together often and find some nice coins and goodies!

God Bless & Good Luck!
Betty

So how do you like the Black Widows? Glad to see you on the Christian forum. You said in one of youre last messages that you are a musician.Cool. I've been detecting for about 30years.Run a music store and play guitar and bass on my church's worship team. If you are ever in the Danville Ill aera I'd be more than glad to take You to some of my favorite sites around here.

I really was a bit skeptical about how different a "good" set of headphones could be vs. the stock Koss. I alway thought that I could hear everything. Now, while I'd heard how "loud" the BW's were, it's really not the case... it's how much they block out the ambient noise. It's really like being in a sound booth. I'm able to keep the volume way down and STILL hear everything. Lately, I've become very sensitive to my hearing. I've developed a little problem with ringing in my ears... probably due to playing in bands for the last couple of years. I was afraid that MD'ing might be attributing to it so I looked into other headphones. Since I primarily hunt the beach, I went with the BW's because of the wind / waves noise. These things block out a LOT of the outside noise. Haven't tried them at the beach yet, but I know they're going to work out really well. The tone quality is also very good. While I haven't had a lot of time on them, I'd have to say that a really good set of headphones really does make a difference.

That's the way I look at it... He's been at some other "woodsy" places that I'd like to hunt. There are many areas on the Island that go back to colonial times. Sure would like to find a good place to hunt. I'm planning on doing some research this winter. Have a couple of ideas...

It's a small world, isn't it? Been leading worship for about 15 years. Singer / songwriter with a band for the last 7 (although we're taking a little break for a couple of months).

Re: the BW's, I only have about 6 hours on them, but I know they are really good. Much better than the stock Koss... See my response to Greg.

As far as being in the Ill. area... hey ya never know! I'd love to meet everyone on this forum. Maybe we can hook up at the annual CMD hunt (wherever that'll be)... if I can make it :)
