Saw some Garrett Xmas adds, no new relic detector? Myth or fact?

I thought Garrett already had a "relic" detector - the CX Plus. Not to mention the 2500 - or any of their other fine detectors. In truth, isnt everything we find a "relic?"

I know, Im being obtuse, but I wasn't aware that Garrett was developing a dedicated "relic" detector.

There have been rumors but with the resounding success of the Ace series don't think they're in a big hurry.

And some of it was "BULL". I have never seen so much discontent amongst brand loyalty, amongst users vs users and complaints of new releases, whatever they were. There have been many posts deleted because of insults between users, users against manufacturers and complaints of lack of new technology.

Personally, I hope Garrett does come out with some good "Beef" and not a lot of bull. A good new machine is welcomed machine. If that means more R&D and more time, so be it. Current Garrett machines don't lack the ability to get most of the good stuff out there. Learn your machine well, use the various coils at the appropriate locations and the good finds will come.

Metal detecting is a hobby, and hobbies were meant to be enjoyed. :)

Good sentiments, John

If Garrett put most of thier machines in the Ace 250 package then that would stir it up! They could advertise "all detectors under 3 pounds" Meanwhile I will continue to swing the 250 - very nice detector! This is th first Garrett I have owned and have no complaints.

I couldn't agree more with you khouse. The Ace is also the first Garrett's that I've owned, and it is already my favourite machine. I've only had it for 5 or 6 weeks now and the more you I use it, the more that it teaches me how to separate good from bad targets: particularly in the pinpoint mode. All I've got to do now, is find some descent spots to hunt.
I will never complain, should Garrett's (or anybody else for that matter) reduce the weight of their high end machines to a package similar to the 250. I guess that this will be the next logical move in the hobby given that the overall performance is not going to increase that much anymore.

Yes, lighter is better! I believe Garrett can do it. If it wasn't for holding the batteries, phone jack and coil connector the 250 would be even smaller. They have the control head just about as small as you can get it. Now if they use carbon fiber rods and stick a 1350 or 1500 screen on it they would need to build a plant the size of a city to keep up on sales.

Tesoro has been doing such for a decade.

As the elements begin to get bigger, so too do the housings. To put a 1500 screen on may not raise the weight, but the physical size would increase. Plus the GTI series has to have at least an extra circuit card SOMEWHERE, to manage the discrete imaging functions.
Too, as you add more circuits, you consume more power which is supplied by batteries.
The 250 is really a stand alone unit.

As components get smaller so too the power requirements. Look at the cell phone. The first one I had came in a large bag, huge battery and it was a piece of crap and cost 500.00. Now they give them away and they fit in your fist. Yes, I know Tesoro has been building tiny detectors for years, and doing a great job. I just said if Garrett did it then they could be dominant. (in my opinion). If there is to be advancements in detectors - I think Garrett can do it.(others too if they get on the ball). Why not a flip phone size detector? You could close the cover if raining. Even the rechargeable batteries last for hours now. Heck, I don't know I'm just a plumber.

If they make one to fit in your shoes, I'll get into trouble! I know some off limit beaches that are like virgin. Oh the gold.

I think the sniper coil could fit in your boot!

Or you could look at this. People would look at you funny.

When I start to pp with my foot they will look at me funny. The other shoes will have to be hollow to scoop up the dirt.:wiggle:

yeah. I had forgotten about the tesoro range. I was reading up on them a few weeks back. They sound like great machines; and very light.
The other thing that they have done; is to set them up on a single 9v battery (shrunk the petrol tank).
One development which could be interesting, would be to design a detector that can run on the slightly higher voltage lithium polymer batteries. They are about a quarter of the weight of a standard batteries.
