Well Bill...apparently your right about Tek not jumping into help out....

But I just can't believe it...

Well, it's too soon to be having this much trouble, and it's too soon to have the T2 needing updates. It all just says that the detector was sold to the market too soon. Yes Bill...others do have their share of problems. But my Garrett is on the money 99% of the time. The Tek T2 hasn't done this yet... but I say yet, cause I'm giving it time to speak for it'self! Most who spent the 799.00 won't be happy with the things we're hearing right now, and I'm sure the dealers aren't happy either. These things take there toll quickly!

I've by no means given up on the T2, and I feel it's ok and even a good machine. But either we demand quality out of our machines, or we're really not professionals are we?

Detectors are required to do all we expect of them. If not they will die a quick death. All this negative talk is doing the Tek T2 wrong.
The only one that overcome all the comments is the maker.

So I think if they want to support their buyers, they will continue to have sales success, and if support remains void, so will the sales!

I hope for good support and a great review in the future Bill.

Again... Bill, I am not sorry I bought this Tek T2! However...I really expect Teknetics and Tek dealers to support us who have purchased this detector in 2006. If changes are in order lets get the word out and get these units repaired as they were bought to hunt the 2006 season!

Yes there are serious hunters out here..

There were testers beginning months ago and their input was used and acted on. They're possibly still reporting their observations. But, just a few testers cannot account for all situations, all the soil types, etc. This new machine is big leap for BH/Tek. I'm not just looking out for number 1, I'm here to support them and my fellow Tekkies, too!

There's not many problems or issues being aired on this forum, really. It looks like this revision is an honest effort to address them promptly. I'd rather they did that than wait a year and call it a T3.

I'd been reading the rumors of a revision being tested, all while I was trying to verify my loose coil wire. I could have waited to return mine, but decided to take it a step at a time. I call it a lucky break my unit got there at the same time the revision was just being released.

I also coulda waited till it was returned to say anything here, but decided it would be a help to let people know at least one revised unit would soon be in our collective hands.

While I'm not directly involved, I do know there's much interest behind the scenes and my dealer, Jeff, is helping to keep the process flowing. You can be sure I'll post my honest appraisal of the revised T2 as soon as I have my hot little mitts on it! I'm going to try and not second-guess much till then.

Meanwhile, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think it's going to radically change the way it works. According to another post, nickles go back where I'd prefer they be, and there's further tuning to bottlecap rejection. This may be by a new tone mode, which might give users a choice on the nickle tones. Anything else, I don't know.

When BH upgraded the Time Ranger to run on C-cells, people with units under warranty were offered a free upgrade, for others it was $30. I have no idea how this one will go, but I'm in for it and anxious to be one of the first to check it out!

I do agree with ya an "official" statement here or there would be good. On the company BH forum, they do make some public comments or notices every now and then, but not very often. However, the T2 is scarcely discussed on that forum. We all pretty much hang out here.

While they don't appear much in a public venue, it does sound like they take good care of people on an individual basis. I should just call Tek myself, but I know they're busy and it's not essential that I know more than I do. I'm here if they need me, but I'm mainly trying to stay out of their hair.

I feel they need to step up here on these issues. And if I were the designer...I'd sure want to be a part of whats going on here!

I sent them a letter today. If I hear back I'll let you know what info if any... they release to me.

The finds I have made are not great..but they have come out of tough areas..The area where I found my 2 .45 bullets was hit last year by my Nauty and by a friends XLT..either could find them.
With all machines ( or anything else you buy) a few may have problems..but what is the percentage rate?? It seems here there are more users happy with this machine than those that nay say it.

I think that speaks for its self.

First, I think this up-dating thing has been blown out of proportion, although to some it may be a usable mod. I don

There is not a person on this or any forum that bought a cutting edge computer, before the maker was working on something better!!!! Half of an electronics you buy are "old" before you buy them..thats how it works. I don't care if this company brings out 5 new machines this year!!! Mine works better than anything else I have seen and heard of, and as I have said I have a problem learning new electronics....4 hours to hunt well with this unit for someone like me says it all.
I am getting better at the bottle cap thing..and the only ones I get tricked on now are ones that are new...not rusty...Thanks Pineapple for that!!.
I guess there are a few out there that want the machine to tell you what you have, how deep, the age, and how much it is worth.
The machine is calibrated to presets ( coins I understand)..so that throws out the deapth thing for me as a relic hunter...but I can still use all the info this machine tells me to make a judgement...I still gotta get used to swinging slower!!
OK, in Canada our clad is very differant than yours.I am sure I passed up a few newer coins...but thats not what I am after..so I will let it go..I may have passed up on $10 CDN but I can make a larger sweep looking for the things I want.
I STAND BY THIS...if I don't hit the kind of targets I am looking for, then I AM IN THE WRONG PLACE.
I have never had the confidance in a machine that I now have in the T2 ( The Beanpole as I call it).
I have had a few "false" signals..can't figure that yet but I will learn..we have some really bad soil in areas here..in some fields the soil Changes several times...thats why I ground balance often.

I hunt areas were I am looking for old sites that are not confirmed...I may miss them or they might be built over..If I was in VA or NC...I know I could show you what this beanpole can do.
Yah..I can hit old farmsites....not my thing...yah I can hit beaches..not my thing!! I know if information is right...and the land is not built over..this machine WILL pull the stuff I want out.
As I said..nothing on the planet today that is made or built comes off the line perfect..there are always a few that arn't "right"
Look at Ford and GM when it comes to new models..not to mention computers...it's luck of the draw.
One thing I did notice is that when I did hit the coil into something hard..I did get a signal then lost it...I should have tightened the the shaft and coil tighter than I did...my fault..not the machines.

I am going on again!!! Just finished a 18 hour shift on a new TV pilot..and it's going to rain for a week...looks Like I won't get out to play for awhile.

And still very happy with the T2

Hi Dean

I feel the way you do about the T-2. I wasn't a dealer for them until I tried out the T-2. My normal dealer status is not in this type of detectors.

I was so impressed by the way it worked, yes that includes some burps it has, that I promoted it to my friends before I became a dealer for them.

I still feel it's a good unit, and I'm using an early released one. Does it replace all detectors ? I haven't found any detectors like that yet, but it's a good operating unit. The feature that attracted me to it first is the ability of the T-2 to be able to tell the ground make up. Even if it were a poor performer, I would have kept it just for that ability. It has a real good ability to hunt in trashy ground. It has a real fast recovery for both the circuit, and the ID. Those looking for depth will find that it can hold it's own.

I can understand the old saying of different strokes for different folks. If the T-2 doesn't fit ones needs, move on. There's plenty of good units out there to choose from, and they all work well :)

Well like I said, I agree with your assessment, it a fine unit.

Have a nice day

Bill

I thought I may have got out of line being a new T2 owner with little experance telling other "how it is"...all I can go on is how it worked for me..and I keep telling everyone the peoblems I have with new electronics..My last machine is 15 plus years old...I was afraid to try to learn the "beenpole" but I did..I would rather this machine was taken off the market because anyone can use it.,.well... But with anything new there can be problems..shite happens..as for an upgrade..I am still working WITH this machine..and I am happy...the bottle cap thing I asked about and others are bitching about..well learn the machine...I can now cancel older caps by sound and read out..newer ones, well it still happens..but with time...

The only things missing off the T2 is a vidieo game ( about relic hunting) and a cell phone...maybe in a year or two we can watch TV while hunting...hey guys get on it!!!!

LOL

Totally with you Ed. I know when I first got the T2 I ran it though all kinds of test and comparisons. There were things about it I didn't like and many that I did like. Many of these likes/dislikes would fall into the personal preference category so there's really no issue. Having waved a flag on both the nickel and the RUSTED bottle caps, I can now say that I have both under full control and can now easily identify them without a problem. Granted I would still like to see the nickels in a different tone area but again that is a personal thing with me (just something I had gotten used to over the years).

I haven't experienced the battery wire/connection/spring issues, have had the pinpoint switch nut come loose though a drop of clear fingernail polish resolved that. Basically I love the T2. I have made many great finds with the T2 from both a coin and jewelry perspective. My clad take is just as good as it was before I got it so no loss suffered there. The only one thing that I haven't fixed is that of the depth indicator on targets above the 3in mark. It will still read them deeper than what they really are. I have always started my digs with a three inch plug anyway so this too has worked itself out. I normally just dig my plug, check the plug then if not there re-sweep (with pin pointer) and go from there. If I do get a target that shows deeper than four then I will cut a plug to the depth shown if feasible. It's only the three inch and above indications that are "iffy".

I went on one hunt this weekend with my T2 and the GTX-2500. The reason I took the GTX was because of the mineralization in this particular area. The GTX proved itself many times to be the best I had for this particular area. Long story short, the T2 performed just as well if not even better than the GTX. I only say that because after I made the hits using I tagged then with Popsicle sticks and moved on. I later came back and re swept each stick with the GTX to see if I would get the same readings. I was able to do so on all but two which it would not pick up at all at 9in. When I dug the targets they were as indicated by the T2. I then gridded out another area and like the last time I swept the area tagging my hits as I went with Popsicle sticks though this time I swept it with the GTX first. I marked each Popsicle stick with the depth and the targets possible ID. Before digging all the sticks I came back over the entire area with the T2 and was able to pick them all up and confirmed all of the possible Id's, was even able to pick up another hit that the GTX didn't pick up on. Bottom line the T2 proved it will stand up to the GTX with no problem. I performed like tests/comparisons on other detectors I own with the T2 and can say without reservation it will get the job done.

I will say this too then close this post since I am supposed to be working, but it is a little slow so I figured I'd pop in here and have a look see. When I did my first field report on the T2 it was a whole different ball game. As I mentioned earlier I had my likes and dislikes whether personal or not. I have since overcame just about everything I felt was a shortcoming via having more experience with the machine. I have come to where I feel I totally understand what the machine is telling me and can now easily make my dig/no dig decisions. My dig to find ratio is now up in the upper 90% bracket so I feel good about that too. I have mastered the bottle cap thing where I'll be lucky to dig a bottle cap out of every fifty or so digs. The pull tab vs nickel thing too is totally under control and am very happy with the find ratio in that department too. No other detector has landed me so many nickels as has the T2. I have increased my gold ring yield by 20% from where I was previously so that too is a plus. Hot rocks have become a non-issue thank to the Fe bar. That same bar is how I overcame the RUSTED bottle caps also. Some will say there is no way, well...all I have to say about that is you bring your butt down here and I'll show you there is!

The way I see it is if they make any modifications/improvements it will only make a great detector, greater. I love it and am still learning all kinds of neat stuff about it almost each and every-time I go out with it. We all have our preferences and that is ok, so long as we don't impose upon others our own preferences. We all like to detect differently, have to deal with different soil conditions, utilize different techniques, conduct more/less research than others do, detect more/less than others do, etc...there are just soooo many variables that are to be considered. I love my T2 and nothing will change that. Will I be keeping my eye on the market to see if anything new and better is on the horizon, ABSOLUTELY! I always do and nothing will change that either. Well, nuff said y'all be good life is too short and life is good!;)
