Well, as Gomer Pyle used to say, "Surprise, surprise, Surprise ......!"

It's been a while since I have been out doing a little land detecting so, since today here in Florida was an overcast, cool, kinda damp day, I decided a little school yard searching was in order. I chose an old high school in Tampa that I've been wanting to go to for quite some time and this popped outa the ground about 10 minutes after I got there. To say I was surprised would be a massive understatement. The front of the school is open and I'll be there has been 10,000 detectorists there over the years. I'd say about 2 acres of open grass makes up the courtyard in front of the school. When I got there I asked myself, " If I were an old coin where would I be hiding?" I chose the small excellerator coil and decided to hunt in the trash figuring all of the easy stuff had been picked over years ago. I started a line between the sidewalk and the main road and about 10 minutes later I got a nickel reading on my DFX that was only 1/2 inch deep. I kicked some sticky dirt out of the way with my foot, bent over and picked up the nickel. Couldn't believe my eyes when the rest of the wet soil fell off of her. First time I've cracked the 1900 barrier in several years. Too cool ! The rest of the day was clads and memorials but all in all it was a good day.
