Well...After WAY too many years I'm back with a Sov XS!

I took a six year hiatus from the hobby and just got back into it. Decided to try out the Etrac which was an awesome machine. My problem is simply this: whenever I use an Explorer/Etrac type of machine, I spend way too much time fiddling with adjustments. Also my eyesight has taken a nose dive and that meter is just too damn hard to see! On top of that, I just couldn't get used to the audio. And then it hit me...Do I DARE go back to using a discontinued Minelab model that some might consider a dinosaur? Not just discontinued this year (GT version) but over TEN years ago? The answer was a resounding YES! Why? Well it seems that I've always been happiest with the whine of a vintage Sov. The audio is outstanding, I LOVE the pinpoint mode and hunting in reverse disc to check a target, and the XS version has only ONE simple switch to protect with a switch boot cover. I also liked the plug in battery set up the best in this unit. And I STILL maintain to this day that the Minelab Sovereign is one of the BEST all around hunting machines ever built by Australia! So I took the plunge and sold off my month old Etrac for a really nice Sov XS with Dixie mods. Unfortunately it has the stock rod set up and an 11" Penatrator coil instead of my favorite 8" CoinSearch coil soooooo...I hit up the big E and low and behold, found a MINT CoinSearch! (thanks Jim!) and then proceeded to nab a new Ron's meter that I have been hearing nothing but good about (at a GREAT price I might add). Needless to say I'm pumped to be reunited with this old friend coming today via FedEx! I feel like I'm covered for both a main coil AND smaller coil with the CoinSearch as it's inner windings are the same as the other Minelab 8" coils which is only 7.25" but the DEPTH this coil achieves has always been absolutely amazing. Now for the larger coil that's waterproof, I need to find me one of them newfangled 12X10 SEFs and I've already decided I will probably get a custom rod set up for it as well.............HH George Fatizzi PS: I'm on a spending spree right now for as many accessories I can find for this machine so if you have parts laying around (especially V-clips, battery/chargers/hip mount bags etc, hit me up while I'm flush! LOL)

George that 8 " coin search is a great coil yes i got one a few months ago brand new still in box never used 110.00 and yes it does go as deep as the 12x10 . Jim HH

As I have always said those the got to know their Sovereigns well and tried other detectors seem to always come back to the Sovereign sooner or later, or keep one as a back up.
The XS is one of my favorite ones and the GT is also plus that 8 inch coinsearch is one of the best coils Minelab has ever made as you have seen before.
I do have something you maybe interested in as I have been saving it for the right person, I have a like new Sun Ray leather hip mount bag that was for the XS series Sovereign that had the pouch for the extra battery and the protector for the cable I would sell if interested.

Good to see you back George and good luck.

Rick

Thanks Rick, you know me too well! LOL Thanks for the offer on the Sunray hipmount bag but I don't hipmount. I've decided I'm going to get a custom rod set up for it, at least with the larger coil for better balance.

Damn! Kellyco just sent me an e-mail saying they are backordered AGAIN on the 12X10 SEFs. Must be pretty popular. Guess everybody is just buying them up! Wonder how long I'll have to wait now with my money tied up?

Hey George,

I was happy to send that fresh coinsearch coil your way.

I have to replace it because I have trouble over here, I am going to buy one today.

I need one more coil to test my machine with, I am thinking it's broken.

It has about the same vision as Ray Charles.

Sorry to hear that Jim. Hope you get it sorted out. Pleasure talking to you last night and thanks again, can't wait to get that bad boy! HH George

Last year I sold my Explorer SE Pro,,I just couldn't get used to it after a year and a half of trying..It leaned up against the wall more than it went outside.I would always grab my Sovereign GT or sometimes take the Sov and the Explorer but it would be the Sovereign that got used.Sure the Sovereign might be an older machine but give me my GT and my 15" WOT coil and I will put it up against Any machine,,even Minelabs new 3030 that's $2500. Bucks......Regards....John...

George, the Sovereign XS is still very competitive with the latest detectors. This older Sovereign is one of my favorite models. We all take breaks from the hobby for different reasons, but its always good to get back in the saddle. Good Luck Thanks Ron

Hey George, Ron is right.......

Here's part of my reason for a long break from the hobby......

But as you can see she is all grown up now, she moved to Colorado, and I miss her more than words can tell.

Oh, hey George, my deal for a coinsearch coil fell through, I need that coil back.

LOL

Just kidding, I doubt I could pry it away from you with a crowbar.

I "guarantee" it will find you plenty of keepers!
