Well, after shooting about 1,000 frames with the Nikon D1, I have to say

that it's the best built digital camera I've ever used. The word 'tank' comes to mind when I pick it up...
Shooting in the sun with aa plastic cover over it gets it so hot it's almost impossible to hold yet it keeps on shooting. The auto focus is lightning fast.
I like the heavy weight. It stabilizes the camera and avoids some of the camera shake inherent in sports photography.
The only thing I don'y like about it is that it's limited to about 1 shot every 3 secs....

John,
Obviously you know that the Nikon D1 is an out of date camera. Have that camera checked for the shutter quickness problem. That doesn't sound right. I had one of those. Also check around for the fireware update for that camera. It had a strange magenta cast at times and the skin tones were funky at times. But have it checked out for the shutter problem. That's not right.

which is what we use.
From DpReview:
"Single frame shooting
One frame is taken when shutter release is pressed, next shot cannot be taken until that image has been flushed away to the storage card. I have no idea why the D1 doesn't use the memory buffer for single frame shooting, that way you'd never have to wait for the camera whatever the shooting mode (maybe this should be a custom function?)"
Yea, being the new guy I get to use the oldest camera. I can't use burst mode because I have to quickly shoot different areas and scenes. Soon I will have access to the D1H. Much faster.
Hmmm..I might have found a solution. Another comment by Phil A.
"Note: it is possible to effect a "buffered single frame mode" by switching to continuous shooting mode and setting custom function 26 to 1 ("only buffer one image in continuous mode"), of course that leaves you without continuous shooting and you don't get an image review like you do in non-buffered single frame."

Put a faster card in and you will see the difference.
I never had that problem.....

Also check what mode you are shooting in.
Shooting jpeg mode you should not have that problem.
