Welcome to the new home of Yank-Aussie Prospecting Forum

I'm trying to find out info from someone using the Minelab SD2200v2 detector. I will be using it for relics in the USA. I been using the Whites for years and also the new T2 from Teknetics. I like them both but feel there is something better somewhere. I know there were a few of the Minelab detectors used at the DIV hunts in Virginia. They were cleaning up, and the ground was big time bad. They seemed to have no trouble. However they were using the big HIGH END gold series detectors. They are out of my range for the time I can hunt. I came upon the SD2200 v2 model in a price range I can live with but am wondering if it handles the ground and is good on relics? Also does it have a big learning curve. I've been hunting since the sixties so I have a good knowledge of detectors but the hearing is not as good as it used to be. Any in-put would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Trocar; the 2200 is a good detector but do you really want a detector that will find the tiniest bits of iron? If you do the 2200 will go deep and find just about anything in the ground...the audio signal is a bit weak so get a coiltek enhancer for it and some headphones or Montana Bob's dual speaker system...good luck!!!

I'm not a relic hunter, but from what I've heard about that DIV hunt in Virginia, it was the new Whites TDI that cleaned up. The big Minelabs do go deep for sure, but the TDI has the ability to "identify" certain types of iron without losing any depth. Put a big loop on it and you've got a machine that compares one on one. And, it's less than half the price (brand new), made in the USA, and backed by Whites famous service. I also heard the Minelabs had some problems with the ground there, using the mono loops, whereas the Whites didn't.
Do a little research around the forums and see if this might be the ticket for you. Production is gearing up and there should be plenty available in about a month.

I also heard that the Garrett Infiniums were cleaning up at the relics hunt. Infinium hit all targets the Whites hit. And its less expensive. Great relic machine to get deeper than VLF's Which i used in Ga.

Good luck with which ever you get!
