weird things my detector does, what does yours do?

My detector takes a bit of time to warm up when I'm first going in to the sea, and it works best if I switch it on with the coil just submerged, and I then go over my metal scoop, which gives it a good signal. Also sometimes if the wire that connects to the coil is wiggled around the machine registers a target. My headphone cable has been bolted to the shaft so it can't be pulled at the join, I find that very good as twice it would have pulled super hard on the join when I dropped the machine in a bit of swell.

What does your detector do that is werd?

Anyone know what the proper place for the arm cup to rest on is? My arm is killing me, I thought it was a gym thing, but now I'm thinking I've got my arm support bit set wrong. It's on the middle of the three holes,.

Cheers

What detector are you using?

It's a second hand Excalibur 1000, it had just been serviced in Ireland for this fault before i bought it. But it doesn't happen after a few minutes, and its found me 6 gold rings and a 35g 14k chain, so I'm not complaining, I love my detector. How's your scally?
Water wizard ,

No problems with mine. Turn on and go for me. I wouldn't worry to much about it if it's working for you.

Mine does not have to warm up. When I turn it on it is ready to go in the water on dry land where ever. Sounds like from your finds yours is doing what it is supposed to do. You are using muscles in a different way is probably what is going on. Hunting in the ocean is fun but it is also work and can be very hard and dangerous work but the only thing that will help that problem is experience. Good luck and be carefull. HH :minelab:

For your arm, try this...instead of swinging an arc, which is killer on the elbow in the water, try a "herringbone" pattern...you sort of push the detector away from you at a 45 degree angle, pull it back, and repeat on the other side of your body....you are then using your bicep and tricep and not rotating at your elbow or shoulder...a fellow can sort of crouch down in the deeper water and even use your leg muscles to advance the push, rocking side to side as you push and pull...sort of like how they teach a boxer to throw a punch, using your legs. You should feel no pain as all stress is balanced throughout your body.
Mud

That is exactly what I'm feeling mud! I will try what you said about using my legs to push the advance, I have a weight belt on (which definitely helps me dig deep water wading targets), thanks very much :)

As I recall (it's been a long time since I used one), the Excal works better when a hunter swings it slowly at just about the effort necessary ro move it through the water!!

Lots less muscle strain that way,

CJ

Thanks CJ, yes I've found that to be the case, a nice slow swing is best. I think I have the arm cup to far below my elbow. 5 hours a day for 12 days hunting has done me in! I'm a professional juggler, so i'll have to take it easy for a bit.... The gold was worth it, but I wanna go away again now......

What does mine do? Well it beeps and I find things. Anyway, I think the cup on mine is right at my elbow. Been too long since I held it.

Thanks scubadetector, I am going to move mine to my elbow. Hope you can get back in the water soon, spring is in the air, good luck,
water wizard.
