weird thing happened with wife's etrac

My wife and I both have an etrac. When we go hunting, we have to stay a a little ways apart due to the machines freaking out from being so close together. Anyway, she had gotten an overload on hers and I started walking over to see what she had found. When I started getting close, the machines started Goin crazy, being to close so I turned mine off. She dug up a 1955 beer can, that was pretty cool, then started detecting again. She said her etrac wasn't acting right so I came over to look at it. It all of a sudden wouldn't pick up anything. Not even a coin if I rubbed it across the coil. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I did a reset....and still, it wouldn't pick up anything. So we had to leave. We went home, and I was going to put another coil on it to see if maybe it was a coil issue. Before I swapped out the coil, I turned it on to check it again, and it worked perfectly. It's been working great since. I don't know what the issue was. Maybe the overload signal did something? Maybe because I had gotten too close and made it freak out for a moment. ..I don't know. Hope it doesn't happen again. I don't want to have to send it in for repair, because the weather is just starting to get nice here in Washington state.

If u do a noise cancel right beside her etrac, your machine will pick a different channel and u can hunt right beside her no problem, my buddy and I both use etracs beside each other no problem at all

I didn't know that. ..thanks. I guess I had just figured they would interfere with each other, so I've always walked away from her and did a noise cancel, but when I'd get close to her they would make noises. I'll try the noise cancel standing next to her when we go back out.

I've never had this happen while hunting with another E-Trac user.

Only one time did I have a similiar experience as you did. The cause for mine were buried, high voltage lines going to a building. I guess they weren't buried very deep or something. When I crossed over them, my machine went nuts and I had to shut it down. I moved away from the area to turn it back on and everything was normal.

Of course I had to go back over and try it again to see if "I was right"....yep, shut 'er down again.

Probably obvious things to try, but make sure all your cable connections are tight and if you have a Sunray Probe make sure it is switched to the main coil.

Maybe give Minelabe a call and see what they say about it?

Let us know if you figure anything out, may help someone else in the future....

It hasnt done it again since i turned it off and back on. I called minelab and told them what happened and they said that sometimes with electronics glitches can happen. As long as it hasn't done it since and is working fine, I shouldn't be concerned about it too much. He told me if it happens again, that I can send it to them to have them check it out. But it's been working perfect since. The people at minelab are pretty nice. The detector still has 2 years warranty, so I'm not worried about it.
