Weight Of 10.5 inch DD Coil

RLOH

Well-known member
Does anyone know the weight of the 10.5 inch dd coil and the stock 9 inch coil. I believe Minelab's website has the 10.5 inch coil weighing 1.5 pounds. I had this coil several years back and did not think it to be that heavy. Thanks Ray

I don't have the 10.5 but the 9 inch concentric 7.5 kHz with cover weighs 450 grams or almost 1 pound.

Ray, just weighed the 10.5" MF coil at 1lb 4oz, and the 9" HF coil at 15oz. The 10.5" is only 5oz more than the 9", but seems heavier because of the distance from your grip. (moment)

Another factor relative to felt weight is the placement of the mounting ears. The 10.5" mounts behind center of the coil, putting the majority of it's weight further in front. Many mount their coil backward just for the reason of better balance.

Yep thats it right there. If the coil mount ears were in the center of the coil it would feel lighter.
Another way to lighten it is remove the cover.
With the coil mounted on your detector remove the cover and you will feel the difference. When you hold it in your hand it doesnt feel like much but on the detector with the rod extended for hunting it makes a difference.
