Weight comparsions of coils

Ray you must have the coils mixed up, the 12X10 SEF mounts smack dab in the middle of the coil. Coils that give a forward heavy feeling are those that are mounted rear of the center of the coil.

10X12 SEF-24 oz.---11" Pro-19 oz.-------According to the weights shown on 2 of my very accurate scales.--Don't let the weights stop you though.--I've got 'em both, use 'em both & they are BOTH "killer coils"---Oh yeah, and I LOVE 'em both!!!  -----Del

I've recently been using the sef 12 x 15 among others, and although it's heavier I hardly notice it. I usually adjust the length of the rod so that it's just long enough to let my arm hang down straight and then swing the coil right in front of my feet, almost hitting my toes. You can take much more weight that way for all day, compared with bending at the elbow. I never have had trouble doing it like this. I see most people, for some reason, with the coil way out in front of them, causing alot of stress on the elbow. Some use a kind of sling too.

No mix up as I have used both.I was refering to the fact that the more weight forward of the ballance point on any machine feels multplied and an extra 5 oz. on the E-Trac is very noticable as it is a little nose heavy to begin with unless you shorten the rod way up and take little narrow sweeps that do not cover much ground.I have no problem using the Pro coil for several hours non-stop with the rod fully extended and I am not very big at 5'-6" tall and 140 lbs. When I did the same with the 12 x 10 my shoulder started to complain after an hour or so,Ray.

I agree with Ray, the weight difference is noticeable and after a few minutes I'm shortening up the rod .. I believe the Pro coil has a performance advantage as well .. No tests, just get more coins in the pouch with the Pro coil.. In my opinion the Pro coil is worth the extra money... wildherre

[size=large]I have both, and just listed my Pro coil on MeBay.....I could not just go from one to the other ,as it takes a while to get used to the other when you switch...I used my 12" SEF all year, and switched to the Pro for a couple hours during one hunt. I found one silver this year with that pro coil during that hunt....I am 5'9...210#...and have swung my 12" sef about 200 hours this year so far,,,,and have found over 100 silver coins with it,1 with the Pro,and half dozen or more with the minelab 8".....The SEF doesn't seem too heavy to ME ................When your pullin good silver out of the ground, you tend to forget all about that little bit-o-pain...L.O.L.
I probably would have done as well with the Pro coil.......But I can not be sure,so I'll stick with the 12"
