Weekend's highlight-1st Buffalo nickle

Lessee...started out Saturday with my son checking out the area around an old mansion that was burned down in the 70's, and is now badly overgrown...real tough swinging. REAL deep detrious making a decent read difficult. Managed to dig up an old Timex watch dated from the early 60s. (and a bunch of junk)
Later that afternoon, worked an area around a baseball field, came away with over $3 in clad.
Sunday evening I was allowed to detect the yeard of a friend, with the house built in the 20's. My first find was a large caliber bullet!
Then a pc of jewely that looks like part of a bracelet with the name "Munroe" finely engraved in a polished stone in a real old looking font. Might be gold...dunno yet, have to clean it up. Then, in his front yard, and nearly 11" I dug up a 1924 Buffalo nickle. Here it is after cleaning with Simichrome a bit.

:twodetecting::wiggle:Too much keep it up danimal with experience you will get better and better good luck..Ciao................Anthony:beers:

Thanks Tony!..the other bit with the engraved stone ended up being silver.
Tonight after work in the rain and mud I dug 2.25 in clad in 1-1/2 hrs working a soccer field. Also found a weird star necklace and a pendant. Sorry...no pics.
This is very addictive! I'm thinking about modifying my ACE to relocate the headphone jack. I'm tired of the cord flopping around covering the display. I am also going to look into adding internal LED lighting for the display. There's plenty of room in there for 2-3 5mm LEDs and a couple small lithiums. A small SPST switch at Radioshack and I'm set.

No doubt, like fishing, there is still an element of luck involved no matter how much you try to put yourself in the right area. You may not have found a buffalo nickle, but I am sure you have found other old stuff.
In fishing, Al Lindner of "InFisherman" fame, coined a "formula" for fishing success, and it seems to fall true in THing as well.
F+L+P=S
Fish+Location+Presentation=Success
You can have two of the three but still not catch fish. You can be in the right location and use the correct presentation (tools-tackle), but if there's no fish there->NADA
In THing, the presentation would be the proper use and knowledge of how to use your detector. Location is self explanatory. Having coins or relics present comes from some research (or luck).
I think I can use a lot of the same skill sets I developed from years of bass fishing to accelerate my learning curve. Patience is a learned atribute.
So, I will now "coin" the formula for THing success :)
C+L+P=S
