Weekend Road Trip - Gold and Silver

Finds are from a two night weekend road trip a few hundred miles and 2 states south. Old city parks were the target.
Fellow EXTREME detectorist James made the trip with me and got a nice variety of old finds also.
We definitely had to work for our old signals but both of us are too stubborn to give up very easy.
The first day we were bombarded by rain and mid 40s temps. The Old quarter had iron around it and was a good 7 inches deep.
It was a welcome sight in the miserable weather.
The second day was great weather and hit 50 degrees. The gold ring sounded just like an old nickel and made my day.
It was about 4 inches deep and a complete surprise. It came out of the ground shiny so I knew it was good.
On Sunday It turned to 25 degrees and very windy on the way back but we both managed to get silver.

1917D Standing Liberty Quarter
Dimes are 1942,1943,1947,1963
Nickels are 5 Buffalos back to 1916 (D mint mark) ,1943 (silver war nickel),1947 Jefferson
Indian head pennies are 1867,1905
19 Wheat pennies are back to 1911.

Old Crotal/Sleigh Bell
Lead piece, possibly bale seal.
Semi Modern Token with Roman Face
Some sort of blank gaming token

Nice finds. At first I thought your quarter was a type I until I saw the reverse.

Mike Moutray used to go on epic road trips up from Missouri- back in the early days it seemed he would post a dozen seated every trip. Wonder if those pictures still exist on Findmall. He hit much of the midwest.

Say hello to James, hoping he'll start posting again some day.

Great finds Dave. Beautiful second year SLQ. Still one of the most beautiful coins the US ever minted. Huge congrats on the very unusual Black Hills ring. Also a very nice haul of Indians and Buffaloes especially that sweet 1867. Too bad you live so far away. Would love to get out detecting with you one day. ATB Greg

A dozen seated would be unbelievable. All the high tones we did run into were always next to Iron so they were partially masked.
Mike Moutray detected well before I started detecting. I remember reading about him when I was thinking of starting.
I will say hi to James next time I see him.

Yep, I would like to detect with you sometime and finding a site that would hold a potential US large cent would get me to travel anywhere

I was in a metal detecting club in St. Louis (Midwest Coin & Historical Society) and hunted some old parks with him during our monthly hunts. He gave us a class at Forest Park and I learned quite a bit. A couple of times he brought to the monthly meetings some of his finds in display cases. To say I was green with envy would be an understatement. Been checking the club website to see what they've been up to and haven't seen his name mentioned? I wonder if he's still into it?

They're a tough find here in TN too. I found most of mine in Ohio. Found a spill with five of them and one Flying Eagle together at an old home site in a field back in 1988. Oldest was 1822. They seem to find a lot of them in that state. Found a few in Maryland and one in Michigan.
