Weekend Hunt

We went out for a few days camping and we took in some metal detecting. I found 6 wheat cents dated 1920-1953, 1939-S Merc dime, a small handful of clad, a large cap gun (I thought it was a real gun at first. I'll clean it later and take pics) and also this U.S.Boys Working Reserve Pin. The organization started in 1917 to help out families in the WW I. The organization only lasted from 1917-1918. A bit over a year and a half. We had never heard of the group before doing a bit of research. Thanks for looking and HH, Nancy

That U.S. Boys' Working Reserve pin is one amazing piece of history. Well done! Everything else is great but that pin! Wow is all I can say. Some young man was incredibly proud to wear it and heart broken to lose it.

Interesting old button and coins.
Should be more oldies from there yet.
Congrats !

Thank you all for your comments.

RedRockNv, You brought tears to my eyes when I read your response about that pin. Yes, "Some young man was incredibly proud to wear it and heart broken to lose it". Thank you for a wonderful post.

HH,
Nancy

I agree RedRock, the pin that Nancy found is a 300 hour service badge.

Congratulations honey..........:cheekkiss:

Yes, great fine. So, don't you feel bad that that old boy lost his pin. And is that pin is worth some? I fine a lot of penny's but nothing my oldest is 1974. Worst thing about it my piggy bank has older ones. Have a great day

Good job Nancy. Nice finds and i like the merc. cch

nice pin Nancy! i got to research that some. that was our active World War 1 years- when we joined the fray. i wonder was that the young men filling in like the ladies in WW2 did building airplanes? remember the "ROSIE THE RIVETER" poster? i would rather find something like that than clad any day! good work hh Carey

Here is what the boys did and more: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/23473-the-united-states-boys-working-reserve/

Thanks Carey, I would much rather find something like this than a piece of silver also. There's so much more history and meaning to the pin. Oh yes, I remember the poster. Thank you for the comments and HH, Nancy

Ahhhh, tokens and dated memorabilia, along with old coins, are my favorite finds. WTG Nancy!! That would have really made my day. Good luck and HH and keep having FUN out there. Bob.

Thanks Bob. I love seeing the old memorabilia items come out of hiding also. If they could just talk. Oh, what stories they could tell. Thanks and HH, Nancy
