Saturday I was able to sneak out for about 30 minutes checking on some info a friend of mine had given me concerning the location of the old zoo in this town. Well, I believe he put me right on it, as I was able to pull up 2 Wheat's, a '44 and '45, in the short time I had to hunt.
And what a hunt! Blowing cool wind, and on a steep hillside, to boot! At least the hill provided a little shelter from the wind.
Today, I went back after work. Bright, sunny skies, in the 50's, windy, but not terribly so (heck, there was one guy parked in one of my hunt sites TANNING!). I started out in some brush, but only got a few Mem pennies, and junk. I ended up going back to the area where I had recovered the Wheat's the day before. After a little hunting, I turned up a '47D Wheat. I started working the hillside again, and decided to sweep a lane parallel to the hill, to see how far the targets extend out. I managed to get a good signal, at an indicated 4". When I flipped over a plug, the target was in the plug. I started probing with my Vibraprobe, and got a signal at about 9 o'clock in the plug. Using the tip of the Vibraprobe to brush away the loose, sandy, soil, I exposed a silver quarter! Woohoo! First silver of the year, and it's a quarter! '54D to be exact, in pretty good shape.
I hunted for about an hour after finding that, but didn't find anything but modern clad.
