Weekend finds

Went on 2 hunts Friday and Sunday. I hadn't used the Elite since December, but it's time to get accustomed to her
since summer is coming and i bought it to use at the beaches even though I have an Excal. Also, I bought an
amp for it, so I want to use it a few times before I mess around with the amp.

Friday I went with the 10" Tornado for the first time. I think I'm really going to like this coil even though I had a hard time pinpointing, but slowly got the
hang of it. I found about $5 in clad most of it most of it 3-6' range and dug some deep copper and brass. I was really impressed with this coils depth and how
I was able to pick out targets around nulls and bettween nulls. Then I got the low battery warning $$&* now I remember why it wasn't being used. Or was it the cable's dangling by my side
or the control housing swinging back and forth getting in my way?

On Sunday I went to a school field I've been finding silver dimes in the last 3 hunts. Here the soil was different and alot trashier, 8 coil" is the way to go. The Elite got me one more
silver and 3 wheats.

I have a feeling it is going to be better for me in the wet sand than the excal even though they are the same.

HH, Epi

Yes, I believe the Excal is based on the old XS Sovereign, where as the Elite (and especially the GT) are said to get more depth than the older Sovereigns or the Excal. Good luck!

But don't mean to say that the Excal still doesn't get better depth than pretty much any VLF water machine on the market. And of course you can always put a bigger coil on it to push the depths even deeper. Just saying that the Elite is supposed to be a bit deeper than the older XS the Excal was based on, and that the GT is supposed to be even a bit more deeper yet.

A lot has to do with the coils floating around out there. A lot of Excals still using the old 8" (7 & 1/4") and 10" BBS coils, which didn't perform as well as the newer Tornado versions of those coils they now use. Same deal with the Sovereigns. Many of the older models came with 8" coils, or the old 10" BBS coil, and don't get the depth they should if they were using a modern Tornado or of course a larger coil.

Epi,

Nice finds. I'm running into wheaties in the same date-ranges recently; nothing from the '20's, but '30's and 40's are coming in, and some '50s. No silver on my part in those decades in these spots, but I think it's just a matter of time - mostly having the time. As soon as school is out, I will have each day after work + weekends.

It's great to see what others find. I should be taking photos soon to post, but I appreciate those that do post photos; keeps me inspired.

Thanks, and Congrats on your finds,
