Weekend Finds - Sharp 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar !!!

My wife and I went on a fairly close day trip where she shopped and I metal detected at spots on my research list.
The old city park where I got the Morgan dollar (my first ever!) had very few high tones.
I pulled 2 v nickels, the silver war nickel and the small foreign coin there. I was just about ready to call it good at this park
and hit a signal about 20 feet in from the curb that sounded like a deep faint Indian head penny. It was somewhat choppy, not real loud but I got it to repeat from both
directions. I remember seeing 01-39/40/41 numbers. I dug deep expecting to pull up some can or copper pipe and was in shock when I saw the huge silver rim in the dirt.
I didn't believe what it was until I held it in my hand and thinking I am so lucky to have not gouged this coin. The coin was about 9-10 inches deep.
I worked the area pretty hard but did not get any other coins there. Just a false alarm crushed old can about a foot deep.
The other coins came from a couple other city parks.

Dollar is 1897 0.
Quarter is 1914.
Dimes are 1907,1944,1945
Nickels are 1903,1905,1906,1943
Indian heads are 1896,1899
Wheat pennies are back to 1909.

Military Buttons came from a city park where I pulled the Barber quarter.

Dave, if anyone deserves to find a Morgan--based on research and time afield, am guessing you're the guy. Great variety as usual. Congratulations.

SWEEEET, you got a Morgan. A big congrat's on that one Dave.

I found my first and only one in a public park too. Now you know how it feels, isn't it great.

Good digs Dave. I think I'll head to that park on my 2 days off to try it again. Finds are pretty sparse there tho. Gratz bro.

Way to go on your first Morgan! That's a great looking coin and the rest of the haul is pretty respectable too!

Don't 'ya just love seeing that big 'ole hunk of silver coming out of the hole??!!!
Congrat's on a GREAT hunt!!!

Good stuff as usual....!!!! I can appreciate the excitement! In 25 yrs of tecting I've been lucky enough to stumble onto 2 Morgans about 5 yrs apart time wise, 1879s, and a 1921..... Now get that Largie...........!!

Wow! That is a beautiful coin. Coin sounds almost to modest a description. It's a beautiful Silver Dollar. Congrats!

FPD,

That would have been an excellent hunt without the Big Silver. When you add the Morgan Dollar, it must make it among your best days swinging ever! :clapping:

Is this your first Silver Dollar? What coil were you using?

Big silver is awesome. Congrats and THANK YOU for posting.

Wow!! I hope you go back real soon & keep us posted!! Congrats!

Hey Mark, yes it is. I remember vividly when you handed your 1884 silver dollar to me to look at when we met down south a few years ago.
I was beginning to wonder if I would ever find one. Many digs later I finally got one.

FPD,

Congratulations on your FIRST ! Now that you've broken the ice, may there be many more in your future.

What a great find! A silver dollar is still on my bucket list and I am glad you get to check it off your list.

The rest of your finds were pretty good in my book too!

I have dug several 1-40/41/42 signals and have never been lucky enough to find a big silver rim n the hole, just junk. I can't wait for the day a silver rim shows up!

It goes to show that no park is ever really hunted out.

Great job! Welcome to the club and congratulations on all the finds!
