Weekend Dime Grand Slam! / Walker / Barber Quarter / Horse Crotal Bell

Well-known member
Finds are from researched old city parks and schools over the last couple weeks. The dime grand slam happened this weekend.
Machines used were Minelab E-trac and XP ORX. I pulled barber dime, Indian penny, silver roosevelt dime and the square silver pendant and a few wheat pennies with the XP ORX.
The 1853 seated liberty dime was pulled out of an old city park < 1 hour from home.
The very worn 1901 barber quarter is so worn I thought it was a token when I pulled it out of the ground. I was happy to run into it though. It was found at a circa 1939 school.
The maker of the old crotal bell (William E. Barton) went out of business by 1881.
I believe that part of the old foreign coin I found is a 1919-1922 German 50 Pfennig. Both jewelry items are marked sterling.

Dave,

Does weekend slam mean all dimes were not found on the same day? I've been up to midnight a couple of times trying to find a stinking roosie.

Neat looking Crotal Bell. I found a similar one in Battle Lake, MN, donated it to Prospect house Museum. Mine appeared to be brass, not the usual silver colored. Yours brass too?

Chris

Nice finds Dave I came close to two trifectas got the quarter then dimes mercs and rosies on one day next day two barbers one 1897 O semi key date...

Hey Chris,
Yep, the Seated was found Friday afternoon and the rest Saturday afternoon.
That Crotal bell was pulled about an hour away from Battle Lake.
It is brass.

Great job! Thanks for full descriptions of what you found. The silver rectangle fob, is it hollow with an opening at the bottom? I’ve found brass versions before and don’t know what they are. Nice token. Does it have a business and address on the other side?

Nice finds! I haven't been out due to the cold weather in NE Iowa. How dis you research your Crotel bells? I found one this fall and have a few I would like to know more about. Ted

Thanks!
The rectangular fob/necklace pendant is solid and it has a sterling stamp on bottom. The token is a merchant token with the name on back. It is a South Dakota token. Fractional cent tokens don't come up often for me..

Thanks Ted. I just searched the internet for "W.E.B. crotal bell" and found a site for crotal bell history with that one listed. It helped that the crotal bell had those initials to narrow the search.

Howdy floodplaindetector--

You made some excellent finds there! Congratulations. Just thought that I would mention that a 1901-S Barber quarter is a high $ coin - even in rough condition. I hope that you checked for that mint mark.Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!

Yep, I am aware of the 1901-S barber quarter being a high dollar coin.
I didn't see a mint mark but will take a second look since this coin is so worn.
thanks
Dave
