We were on Bay Street in San Francisco and I saw this lot and said lets hit this and see what we find. We didn't find much of anything but we climbed the hillside and found a silver dime and a few wheat's and then I hit this target and think, it's a pipe, but if I can pry a target out of the ground I will dig it to see what it is, and there it was a gun! My first, and we were blown away to find this...Ha

YES IT IS IT WAS ABOUT FOUR INCHES IN THE GROUND MY FRIEND SAID HOW DID THAT GET HERE MAYBE IS WAS USED IN A MURDER?

That's pretty cool, and a Ruger to boot. I suppose the barrel is filled in, as well as beneath the handles. What do ya think, buried maybe 5-6 years? Maybe it's a discarded crime weapon or tossed to avoid getting nabbed for it in an arrest.

I knew a guy who walked a little too close to that side of the law and he once ditched a little chromed 22. He told me the approximate place where he threw it. This was back in the 70's, I went and detected for it last year but never found it.

THE BARREL IS STILL OPEN YOU CAN STICK A TOOTH PICK INTO IT AND I WOULD SAY THIS COULD BE VERY OLD AND IN THE GROUND A LONG LONG TIME

I believe the design has been around quite a while before that. Plastic handle or wood? Wood might not last long, platic is pretty "modern." Maybe take it to a gunshop for dating.

If you show it to police you'll never get it back! We found a cash last year It had several pieces of jewlery, 3 rings, Lots of other items...Had to be from a house robbery. We turned it into police hoping it would be returned to the owner. Police sold it all in auction. They got the money????

I was like gee....I'll do that again...DUH!!!!

LCPM,

If this weapon was used in a violent crime, and you were one of the victim's family members, wouldn't you want the crime solved?

The cops could get ballistics and other evidence in a pending case.

Do the right thing and turn the gun over....it has very little monetary value at this point anyway!!

Good luck,
GH

....You serve as a goodwill ambassador for the metal detecting commuinity in turning that over to the police.

Sorry but for all I know I would be arrested for having the gun things are a bit different in Calif.
