Yup! That's what I'm going to do now that I'm retired!
Getting some tools together and heading for Az. this winter. Been saving and planning for a good many months now and hope to have a great adventure. Hope to see you in the Placers as soon as the temps cool down out there. Happy Digging

You reckon America is in trouble!!
Come to Australia mate! A very ordinary 3 bedroom house will set you back 500 grand,No chance for first home buyers We are being bled dry by the banks and Gov (run by a psycohpath) of every cent we have. Canberra, the Capital of the country cannot even afford to run a bloody news paper, food costs a fortune and petrol is 1.67 average per litre, that's around 7.68 per gallon. One aluminium smelter has shut its doors, two oil/petrol refineries have just closed up and the greens want us to stop coal production and all we ever see on the television is bloody funeral insurance adds.....I guess they can see the writing on the wall....soon all that will be left standing will be funeral directors and Boat People.

I had the hardest time spending my loot for around 3-4 years. This worked out well because it really piled up quickly back then. I put myself on an allowance in 2009 and allow myself to spend $1200/year out of my detecting swag. Sort of a pension plan, I think.

also, it (hunting for gold and treasure) is freedom! With the situation in California (banning suction dredges) and the current law suits against the AGENCY people (Cal. Fish&game) one man has stepped up and voiced his honest and true opinion. That man is Dave McCracken or "Dave Mac" as many know him. His words, "gold is the American Dream and is the symbol of freedom in this country" we have to stand up and fight for our freedom! Little by little our rights and freedoms are being diminished. We are more and more being delivered up to CORPORATE. We are being forced into eternal debt (uncontrolled gov spending - yes, you and I and everyone in this country in debt up to our eye brows) and prayed upon by banks, insurance companies, hospitals, fuel companies and food suppliers. (they are all richer and richer) Are we going to recover from this tragedy??? Not if we lose our freedom!!! Our leaders in this country have been corrupted with $$$$ and have lost touch with the common people and our desires to be left alone on public land and claimed lands to pursue our freedom. We are more and more being treated like children with rules and regulations that control every aspect of our lives....like we can't be trusted and need supervision with all or activities. How long will it be before we hear - "NO METAL DETECTING" west of the Mississippi! Like here in my home State of Vermont - you can metal detect on certain State land but you can't probe deeper than three inches. Also, the process of prospecting and working the gold streams has been reduced to having to file for a permit to use a hand sluice (no dredges at all) and the process has been complicated beyond belief because the State has granted the land that the water flows across - the stream bed - as private property belonging to adjoining land owners which requires written permission from all concerned land owners before a permit is issued! Unrealistic regs that cut people off from their freedom. Laws made by out of touch - corrupt POLITICKERS. Stand up and fight for your freedom!!!

Ray,

Sad about Vermont. What would the Green Mountain Boys think now? "Freedom and Unity" (State motto).

I think Corporate is a aiming for huge debt and economic chaos. They're stronger, and we're weaker. Congress is simply for sale, thanks to the SCOTUS ruling on campaign cash that corporations are people and that cash is free speech.

It will be illegal to MD, or even for citizens to hold commodities like gold, silver, lead, copper.

Now you know why Aussies are currently the wealthiest folks in the world at around a quarter of a million, US average wealth is around $66000. it's not so much that our wages are higher, it's the real estate with a few our our cities in the top ten most expensive cities in the world. That's in part why I moved out of Sydney.
That said, at least here in Oz and New Zealand we can commonly find $1 and $2 coins.( I don't know how you get on with your newer sub dollar coins though Kiwi, as they are iron core ones now. Hopefully we'll get a $5 coin eventually. I had heard on the NEWS a few months back, that there was talk of creating a single currency between Australia and New Zealand.
Kiwi; you might want to keep detecting a bit of a secret as you guys still don't have any detecting stores in your country.:thumb up: In a recent post by an Aussie, he was saying , back in the mid eighties when the goldies first came out, he was averaging $61000 a year in finds.:hot: Now it's only about $11 an hour (which is my average find rate when I get down to Sydney). I heard of some very good gold stories when I over over in NZ (Christchurch) at Christmas.
