We just had a danged Bear in the yard:rolleyes: ..........

it is that time of year. He walked out of the brush about 40 ft away while Carol and i were feeding the Hens, looked at us and walked off again. I just know that black ba#tard will be be trying to get into the feed bin now that he has smelled it and i know that is what made him show up so i will keep my flare gun handy and singe his azz rather than have to shoot him, well the first time anyway:biggrin:

This year i am just soooooooo po-ed at all the critters trashing our flowers, fruit trees, grapes etc that they best take the hint as i'm downright crabby. I know it mostly comes from not having the dogs around and i absolutely cannot afford to put up the kind of high fence that is needed.
Now we cannot even let the hens loose until i am sure the Bear problem is solved.

Some of the neighbors feed the Deer and like them, i get that as i would love to have them around the yard but we cannot afford that luxury as the garden, berries, nuts and fruit are very necessary to our financial survival. I will look for an electric fencer soon but that will be a damn nuisance as we would have to open and close it to move around the yard. There would need to be about 1000 ft of fence.

There has been an undersized Doe here all this winter and spring, she was orphaned last fall and had a rough winter, i could not bring myself to bother here and she would stand with 10-15 ft of me while i worked around the yard. Now she looks much healthier, has brought several buddies in and the Roses, Raspberries, Blueberries, Grapes, as well as numerous flowers are trashed......i'm getting soft but that may change:ranting:

I am legally entitled to hunt them in season and what i really should do is put an ad in the paper bragging about shooting Bambi.........unless enough bleeding hearts donate money for my fence?

You can stretch some clear fishing line on some poles surrounding the flower beds and that will spook the deers to stay our of the flower beds. The deer can not see the fishing line and when they come in contact with it, it scares them. Kelley (Texas) :)

not had one in the yard, but others not far off have. I like seeing all of them but once they start eating what I planted to eat myself, then turnabout is fair play. Deer did a number on us a few times. No veggies that year, but plenty of venison. Bartering for veggies can help with the loss. Good luck with the bandits...

One is working.... and one is a backup.... just in case..

I see them pretty regularly at Garage sales.. I will keep you informed.

And i will keep that bear in mind... when ours start..

feed the deer within 10 ft of it and they NEVER get into my flower beds. I have lots of Hosta and the deer love them but never bother them. I have only one wire and it is only about 20 inches high and they never go over it in three years. It is amazing. My charger is good for 20 miles if I remember right.

i am usually looking through a lens though;)
I have tried the fishing line trick and they just duck under it or reach over it. Fine plastic netting works as they hate it but you have to move it often, it is too hard on the plants as they grow and looks trashy.
Gonna keep the flare pistol handy for old "Ursus Rectimus"

i will also look for one, thanks bud. Last i saw of the Bear he was heading for my left wing neighbors who have a couple hives of Bees, hee hee!
