We are still in the red on the purchase of the new machinery...

but the way Katie is working we'll be in the money making "black" by next year. She wanted to ride her new John Deere along with my wife and I on our 40 minute walk. Like I mentioned before , this thing zips along at 5 mph, much faster than we walk but she stops and waits for us. on the way back I told her she might as well put it to work and haul out some of the wood I had split in the woods.

We stopped and she loaded up her machine with a few chalks of wood and took off lickity split for the house. Toooo funny!

I've always told my kids that they could do whatever they believed they needed to do to their body's .... when they were no longer supported by me and their mother. Tat's weren't a huge issue a few years ago but body jewelry was.

My middle daughter came home for Thanksgiving from college one year sporting a shiney new pierced navel ornament. Don't get me wrong, she was / is a really good kid. She was the least expensive of all 3 daughters to raise. She was almost working full time while carrying a full class schedule in college.

Being wise enough not to get into a confrontation with a daughter (and likely her mother / the perky Nancy), I patiently waited for the appropriate moment .... which was as she was loading up her car to head back to school. I normally helped her load and then give her some "gas" money.

I told her I was disappointed to see she had not respected my wishes about her new navel jewelry but congratulated her on her new level of independence. She looked at me funny and asked, "what do you mean, my new level of independence?"

I told her, "Well, Sugar, you are making pretty good grades, are working part time, and seem to be enjoying your college experience. You obviously have way too much time and money on your hands than you need based on your new navel ornament so I won't be financing anything more than books and tuition.

You can now start picking up your apartment rent, auto insurance, auto maintenance, and any extra stuff you used to get from the little spending money your mother and I sometimes sent you."

Within a week Ginger's shiney new navel ornament was mailed to me and then taped to a card hanging on the fridge door where it hung for about 5 or 6 years. Wonder what happened to it .... hummm, do you think it's being saved for my grand daughter?
