Way out in the boonies

Thought I would find something here, but after covering one side of the old school out about 30 yards out and the area where the merry-go-round and the swings were did'nt get a single coin hit. Presume I was getting deep enough because I did find a small piece of copper about half the size of dime down about 8 to 10 inches. Talked to a guy that went to his first year of school here in 1948 and he said he did'nt ever remember having any money back then.

there should be coins but some places kids brought lunches from home or didn't have a need for money at school. I have been to a couple of schools like that and only found a couple of keys and very little trash.

That can happen.
Never carried money when I was a kid. Didn't have any, and no place to spend it anyway.

One thing you might want to take into account at a location like this.............or any other location for that matter......
What kinds of trash are you finding, and what depths??
Newer kinds of trash that seem unusually deep and/or seem randomly oriented as opposed to laying flat at fairly predictable depths would tend to indicate fill dirt.
This does not mean that the entire area was filled or landscaped....some areas may have been filled and others left alone.
The "best" logical areas to search may have been totally wasted, so extend your search area outward.
Other hunters who want to do a highly productive search may have beaten the "best" areas to death already and passed up on the logically "less productive " areas.

Think it over and decide if you want to try again with different tactics.
