Waterproof Hookup

tcp

Member
When the waterproof headphones are hooked to the 3030, the socket for the regular headphones is left open. I would think water would enter into the socket but I guess it doesn't matter. I will probably never submerge the detector but I would like to use it in the rain without worrying about water damage. Thanks for your help.

The adapter for land headphones (the part located above the battery) is removed when hooking up waterproof headphones. The only other item on that bulkhead is where the land headphone adapter screws in and that is sealed.

Thanks, Overvoltage. The land headphones connector just slides in. The waterproof headphones screw onto the other jack leaving the land jack empty. Are you saying the empty land jack is sealed and does not need any additional plug?m

TCP,
"The waterproof headphones screw onto the other jack leaving the land jack empty."
No. It is physically impossible to plug in both land and waterproof headphones at the same time.

I think you may be missing something. When the land headphone adapter 'slides in', it connects (electrically) to where the waterproof headphone would go.
The adapter screws on with a (roughly) 1/4" threaded plastic bolt.
You may be mistaking the 1/4" bolt hole that the plastic bolt screws in to, for a 1/4 phone jack...it is not. It's a threaded socket hole.

*** Please note; In this 'land headphone' configuration, the detector is NOT waterproof. ML does a lot of repairs because people miss this 'detail' ***

When you remove the land headphone adapter (in order to connect to the waterproof connector), there is no 'empty land jack'...just the waterproof connector and the 1/4 screw socket.

Thanks. Duh! I hate to admit that I thought that screw socket was a continuation of land connection when I took the cover off to attach the waterproof headphones.

You are most welcome. It's an easy mistake to make. I'll admit when I first saw one, I had to take a close look at that screw socket as well. :)
