waterproof coil plugs and the Excalibur ...

Willee - Texas

Have the waterproof plugs been improved upon?

A few years back I installed them on an older Excalibur so I could change from the 800 to a 1000 coil as needed.
After making sure they were wired correctly I filled the plug with silicone grease in case water did get in.
They worked OK as I wade (neck deep max) and do not dive with it.
I hear some were having problems with them.

Just got a brand new Excalibur II and am thinking of installing the plugs on it so I can swap coils.
Are the ones that Sun-Ray sells the best out there?

Had a mate install some and they leaked. Would not recommend it. I would never consider doing it, even for wading.

After a while, my Sun Ray connectors started to make noise when you touched them. I was always cleaning the pins. You will probably regret the connectors in the long run. I sent my Excal back to Vegas and had them hard wire another stock coil on it. Good luck, you will need it. John

Glad I checked here before I went and installed them.
It would be nice to be able to change coils, and I am sure somewhere there are suitable connectors for that job, but it looks like the ones that are available develop problems with time.

Too Bad!
