Water Use

Hello,

I know this have been convered multiple times but...

To operate in water, all I need to do is remove the headphone jack and plug in the waterproof headphones, correct?

thank you,

Yep, that is one of several ways to do it. You might want to check your battery seal to make sure it is there, I have heard of some losing theirs when charging the battery.

Also make sure that the cover on the port on the back of the display pod near the external speaker is finger tight as well.

Might as well pop open the the case where the coil cable and screen connectors reside and make sure they are hand tight, too.

And, put a layer of grease around the verberator induction coupling. :)rofl: Just yanking your chain here)

OK, just got my 3030 yesterday. Dont have the waterproof headphones yet, but wanted to ask about just using it with the speaker and no headphones attached. I know about having the headphone unit removed and the headphone port covered. Just want to know if anyone has tried it in the water.*waist deep or so) without any headphones attached. I am waiting on my waterproof ones but do want to get into the water with it now.

I tried that before I got my wireless module. It worked fine with my first CTX until the speaker got wet. Then the speaker was very weak until it dried out. Eventually that speaker would not return to normal volume even when dry and Minelabe replaced the detector. I haven't had the new CTX in the water yet so I don't know if the lower volume when wet applies to all CTX's or just the one I had that had the speaker problem.

I was referring to the Exchange 2 port cap which, on every one I have checked has not been securely tightened. If salt water gets in there we'll see how funny that is!

Now now guys....peace......

Hmmm.... I dont get this...nor understand things much with Minelab. I love their machines...heck...I have owned or do own about all they make or made over the years, except for their very top of the line, that GPX 5000 and their earlier ones in that series I havent been able to afford one of those....yet. Naaa, likely wont. I dont really have a use right now for one of them, though I wouldnt mind at all having one to use. But even though this 3030 busted my budget for the next few months, I had to have one.
I just dont understand why Minelab didnt make sure they had all the needed accessories available when they released the 3030. making folks wait for months for headphones, for example does nothing more than drive folks to their competitors. Me for example. I want to get into the water and use it like it was designed. So am having to go to a guy here to make one for me.

I did have a few minutes to try my 3030 out today. Just for a few minutes and let me tell you, it was great. I spent 20 minutes or so on a little private resort beach, and found a mess of fairly fresh clad...mostly drops, one wheatie..surprise there...really eaten up though..and one silver.a dime..same story as the wheatie.. The signals were coming fast and furious. I must have hit a fresh drop as soon as I hit that little beach, or a couple of them, because I didnt really search much more than 20 feet of sand before I had to get back to work and I was getting multiple targets every couple of feet. Havent counted the clad, but I wouldnt be surprised if there wasnt at least 3 bucks there.

I had the geohunt thing going and as soon as I figure out how to get it up into the exchange program, I am going to post it here.
I found that one wheatie down deep. Not that it means much on this particular beach. They have their sand hauled in so there is no telling what will be found in it and at what depth. But that I found that wheatie at about 12 inches..I thought was pretty good. I didnt measure the hole, guess I should have, but I was trying to mark it on my detector and I kept getting interupted by my audience. The silver dime I found a couple feet away from the wheatie. I figure they were likely hauled in with a load of sand. The coins...not my audience...:lmfao: though one of the kids looked like he had just been buried in it and just dug his way out. I enjoy talking to kids about this hobby. Have given more than one the detecting bug over the years.

Anyway...Its a great detector...I like it.

My CTX got here today and you were right, the USB cap wasn't all the way tight. LOL.

Thanks again to Bart @ Big Boys, everything arrived great.
