water under the screen

is it normal to have water behind the plastic screen on the readout? cause thats what i have after a short water hunt

It might be the same problem I had.I sent mine back and the black faceplate is stick on.They had to take it off to take it apart to repair it and didn't replace it with a new one.I used it in the water and water got in behind the stick on faceplate and the clear plastic front of the machine.I called them and they sent me a new stick on faceplate.I took the old one off and put the new one on and no more problems after that..More than likely that's the problem you have..

My problem must be internal as my pinpoint went bazerk yesterday and today is totally silent..thanks

I, for one bought the At-Pro primarily for water hunting.

Sure hope this doesn't become a common problem.

Mines OK in that regard, so far.

Sorry wayupnorth, looks like yours needs to go into the shop.

Thanks for letting us know and keep us informed of the end result.

Just saying !! One after another..... I'm getting a little concerned aren't you ?

I sent it to Garrett today. It would no longer turn on. I'm not too fired up about it, these things happen. I would hope it will be swapped out for a new unit as I do not think after 1 1/2 months of careful use that this should happen. It was my first time submersing the unit.

I have to add one thing. It is a GREAT unity For the price. The bugs always need to be worked out with a new product release.

I would like to think when I use it..it will do what it's supposed to do, not stress crack, take on water, or just plain break down..

It's almost reached the point Garrett might want to consider a recall of the sold units...get em up and running properly once and for all. You state for the money..well my friend to many of us $500 to $600 for a machine is a considerable amount of money. Depending on where you bought it, and what you paid.
Garrett set the price, we bought it, and now it's having major issues over and over........ Granted mine hasn't broken yet..but I haven't really used it either.
Like I said, I'm almost afraid to take it out..just reading all the issues others post up here.I guess what I am saying is, "all the issues are making me uncomfortable with the purchase".

I have to think this is going to effect the resale prices considerably too.

One great factor I do want to say is this..Garrett has stepped up and fixed every machine or replaced it when there has been a problem. Their a great Company.

Well put.

From all reports their customer service is their strong suit but they may be getting just a little upset with the QC dept.

I would go ahead and use it if I were you, what have you got to lose?

Elton, I say get out and use it and get the bugs out of it, if you don't use it and the warranty runs out and breaks, you will be kicking yourself in the butt

And at whose expense, why should a customer have to do all the field testing to find all the bugs and issues?
I had high hopes for an AT Pro myself, glad I held out and stuck with problem free units from other manufacturers.
I had Garretts since the 1970's thru 1990's and always thought they were excellent reliable units until the AT Pro came out.

If you are that disatisfied with the unit.....sell it. Buy a $1,500 ML and have NO PROBLEMS AT ALL...lol OR Buy 2 AT Pro for $1200 (and have a hell of a fast/good unit)........when one breaks send it in and use the other. 2 years warrenty.........

Yep...LOL and have a spare unit for a buddy to use when you happen to have them both on hand :detecting:

No axe to grind. But it seems the AT Pro has many issues. As more & more users take it to the field. Garrett seems expect the end user to be the field tester, and to report poor engineering issues to them. And then the user has to implement the 'fix' in many cases. I'll take the heat for my statement........if its 'fair & honest' heat.

Point well taken. But if you look across the board of new machines coming out. They all have their problems. Especially new releases. The key is the service you get to take care of those problems.
