Water target recovery advice...PLEASE:confused:

I have had my AT Pro in the water now about 6 times and am having a horrible time with how the pinpoint works with the DD stock coil. I really need some solid advice on how I should be properly pinpointing and where to place my shovel to try and retrieve the target. I am spending way to much time on each target and in some cases not even being successful on retrieving it. I have a very large water scoop so I'm getting a very good bite out of the lake bottom...but I just can't seem to get pinpointing in the water down. I am not to bad with it on land when I can see where I'm placing my scoop...but underwater with no visual I just can't get it right.

I need advice on how you successful AT Pro water hunters are retrieving your targets.

Also...since coming back from the Service Center my AT Pro is working GREAT!! No issues...No leaks!! Man...when this machine gets the bugs worked out...its gonna set the standard by which other detectors are judged! Those that may be hesitant of taking it in the water...like the old "Nike" slogan goes....."Just Do It!!"

Here's how I do it. Find the target go left to right and front to back. Zero in on the target and put your coil on it. Take your left foot and put you toe in the center of the coil. Now slide the coil away with out moving your toe. Take your scoop slide it down your led have the front part of the scoop about in the middle of your foot(in step). then push the scoop straight down and turn it up as you scoop. You should have your target. I know when I'm out in NECK deep water it is a little tough, but I do get it. Some times the targets are 2 or 3 scoops DEEP. Hope this helps. Easier to demonstrate then type it.

Today was my first water hunt, and only my third trip out with my AT Pro. I also find the DD coil difficult to pinpoint with because the detector will sound if the target is anywhere along the vertical axis. I was using the tip/tail pinpoint method which I was struggling with. I'm assuming I'll get better as I learn. I also had a crummy scoop which sometimes required 7 or 8 scoops before I finally had my target. I may opt for one of the concentric coils so I can pinpoint like I'm used to.

Yeah, I have a trouble with "change." (No pun intended...)

It's an aquired talent that may take you a while to get. The DD is no different in the water to pinpoint with. Get the loudest tone swinging left and right(forget the pinpoint button, takes too much time). Slowly slide your foot (I use my right)to the back end of your coil and center it as your coil slowly swings by. Place scoop just to the side of you foot right at the toe and scoop forward with your other foot. Out she comes most times except when it's something real light right on the surface and sometimes it will float off the front of your scoop. I've chased pulltaks and small gold rings for a couple of feet before.

Also hard to pinpoint floating foil:thumbdown:

You have the choice of using the center of the coil or the inner front toe to pinpoint your target. And because it's not a "DD" coil, it is a little easier to discriminate bottle caps. All "DD" coils are famous for really banging hard on bottle caps.

the best i have found is to watch the meter(pinpoint) on the screen. I sometimes do it by sound, but thats not as accurate. The meter seems spot on. My 9" bucketscoop helps too. I usually get my targets in one scoop

I am so buying a good scoop as soon as I can afford it. Today was endless frustration with a 5 inch diameter crappy scoop that kept bending.

Last yr I used a square shovel.....i understand your frustration. what i would do is dig a couple shovels out of the spot and then i had a cheap plastic feed scoop from the feed mill(fleet farm) to scoop up my target...once it was up close to the surface after digging with the shovel.
