Water Search

It'd be cheaper to buy a new anchor. No inexpensive way to waterproof your detector for that kind of depth.

Unless its a stainless thousand dollar anchor its not worth trying for. It would be cheaper to hire a diver with a detector if it is that important. I have over 50 anchors beside my house but I am in Michigan. Snorkeling in heavy weeds is dangerous and only a diver would be able to be recover it anyway. I have been in all kinds of weeds, it can get spooky. At least a diver doesn't have to fight his way to the top for air. Good luck.

I am a diver. But it's impractical to search by hand in heavy weeds with zero visibility. I tried it yesterday. I'm hoping I can rent a detector or something. I'm in upper Wisconsin but from Milwaukee. I'll check the local scuba shop when I get back from vacation. I'm going to remain optimistic. It's shallow, just heavy with weeds. Under 10 feet. I was thinking I could extend the cord for the Toltec 100 and submerge the water disc just above the weeds, but I'm not very familiar with the technology. Not looking for gold. Just a friends anchor that his father made. You know how that goes.

how about using a very strong magnet on a rope and going anchor trolling?

this will work better and cheaper than waterproofing your detector!!!!!! i cannot say if your toltec "disc" or search coil is waterproof but it probably is, the control box is not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes the magnet will have to touch the anchor to be able to grab it and lift it out. you might even find an evenrude or volkswagon!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice one:) I'm just wondering what would cover the most area the most efficiently. We know "about" where it is. Another diver up here suggested just sitting on the back of the boat with a metal pole poking until you hear it hit metal. But again, you'd have to get lucky (or be thorough enough) to hit it dead on. I just thought a metal detector might be a good way. The control box could stay on th boat, the disc could be freed from the shaft and lowered.
