Water Scoop DIY

Some members have been asking about the PVC beach scoop I put together last week, so here's the scoop on how to make 1, pardon the pun.
Take 1 6" PVC Y connection and cut off the Y arm
(you can get a 2nd scoop from the remains of the Y connection)

Glue a 6' to 4' reducer fitting into the bell end of the Y
(the reducer will give the strength to hold the handle and something solid to screw the screen to)

Use a mini grinder to sharpen the mouth of the scoop
(leave enough to avoid the mouth chipping on rocks)

Drill half inch holes in the body of the scoop as per pic

Attach SS mesh with 1/2" SS self tapping screws

Drill a hole in the top rear of the scoop just large enough for a heavy mop handle and secure with a 1/2" SS screw
(fit should be really tight or the handle will be awkward to use)

The whole thing should cost maybe $20 and an hour of your time. I scrounged mine off my construction site so it cost nothing.

Sorry - Couldn't squeeze all the photos into 120k

PS A little duct tape around the screen and screw heads will protect your feet and legs from getting scratched up

PPS "If they don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy" Red Green

PPPS If you can figure out a way to eliminate the SS screen and screws you would be able to scan the scoop with contents to check to see if your target was in the scoop. Heavy duty plastic gutter mesh might work if it was attached inside the scoop in front of reducer.
