Water Proofing the ACE 250?

Coops

New member
Hi Guys & Gals!
JUst wondering if anyone has ever thought of trying to waterproof the control box on the Ace 250? I wonder if there is a way to do that without voiding warranty.
I use a plastic cover when it rains but what I wonder is a way of coating it or protecting it if it accidently gets dropped into the water??
I see that the best place to search the beach is at the waters edge but using an Ace 250 can be a problem if it gets wet so if anyone has ideas I am all ears!!

Best to use a water machine to hunt in water. One slip and the Yeller Feller will get a deadly bath. Of course you could mount it inside a plastic box, add all the water resistant fittings, do some slicing and hope that it works.......and lose the warranty.

Use an arm strap or lanyard to lessen the chances of dropping it in the water. Waterproofing it would require more time and expense than just buying a dedicated water machine in the first place. Once you figure in a good Ikelite (or similar) housing, waterproof bulkhead connectors, waterproof push switches, seals, rewiring, etc., you could probably afford to buy another new 250 and then some. ;)

Garrett needs a good freshwater machine and I think that building it on the 150/250 platform would be a winner!

Are ya'll listening out there in Garland?

That would be a welcomed surprise and again another storm of controversy. And it would be a great machine too!

Well guys, I got a 150 dirt cheap and am going to try to seal that little puppy up in an Otterbox. Should be relatively easy, but I need some hints on where to get a good inexpensive set of waterproof headphones. Any ideas?

I'm thinking that you might not need headphones, the way water seems to conduct sound. When I use my Vibra-Tector underwater I can hear it loud and clear... another option might be an aftermarket jobber that plugs into the headphone jack and turns the audio signal into vibration... seen these in the THing mags. Tucked inside the housing, the vibrator thingy should transmit the feedback well enough to feel if not hear.

Biggest problem might be buoyancy, I can give you some sheet-lead that can be easily cut small enough to layer inside the "Otter".

Just a thought!

But because of the unusually mild and snow less winter, I have been out detecting more and haven't put in the time. My coinrings also take up a large amount of time too.

I'll be watching real closely BCD!

Easy now Big Fella!! Didn't know I was stealing your idea. Maybe we could collaborate a little and get a nice looking rig worked out. Functionality is first and foremost but it's gotta look good, too!!
