If you go over to the Explorer forum and scroll down you will find a topic regarding the XS at the beach.
Hope this helps.

Coil covers are soooo cheap why mess up a coil you might want to trade later. Its always about taking care of your equipment and you just arent going to loose depth. I always clean under my coil cover just before a hunt... routine that keeps the machine quiet. You would be surprised how little soil it takes to make it noisy. Most coils are waterproof, the only one i can think of that isnt is the Joey coil. That said, never lift you coil when wet above the box especially in salt water... you will kill your machine. If you beach hunt... always rinse afterward and keep it covered.

I am new to the sport with an xs.....thanks for the info. I did not know that the cover (very bottom black plastic piece) comes off. I just took it off this morning and whammo!!!! I dumped out a ton of dirt. I got it all cleaned up now and can't wait to go out and use it.

go to minelab website minelab.com then click on "consumer" click on "products" click on "product archive" click on "explorer xs" click on "downloads" after that look at page 102 (the 4th line down.) hope this helps.

use the xs with the standard coil with 2001 and on the beach is no problem.
but the coil has a positive buoyancy, it is inconvenient, it is better to use the coil from ce pro ...
Well, the bar must transform like Excalibur, + sealing block desirable
