water proof compadre!

well I had bought a water proof set up here a couple of weeks ago from a member and that's all fine and good but I cheated a little bit and waiting for it to set up right now, instead of going through the control box and and unsoldering wires, I made a slit through the water proof box and the clam shell, got everything back together used gorilla glue to put clams back together and I used a very heavy duty epoxy puddy and when this sets up going to use the silicone right to it we'll see what happens, luckily I don't have a lot invested, the way its been raining up here this year got a have a water proof machine if you want to detect! might get pics on here later

sounds like a cool project look forward to seeing how you did it and how it turns out

I need a picture.

Just so you know its not going to be pretty by any stretch but hopefully effective and once you have made the commitment to the machine there's no turning back or at least for the compadre, what I did was took a dremel tool cut a slit from the top, this is a water proof box by the way, make sure you give enough slack in the coil line so when you need to change battery you can with out stretching and tugging to much the clamshell was the meanest thing to put back together after you split it then took gorilla glue and clamps to hold them together while putting in the screws and tightening, then look for what you can see daylight through get your putty together and fill in every little crack and crevice possible, I had access to dental picks and other hobby stuff to work with luckily, covers everything right up good, then tomorrow will put the silicone on and let it set up and do some testing in swimming pool and hopefully everything will water tight otherwise i'll stay out of the boat business LOL!

well here is some pics, looks like I just frosted a over grown suzie Q LOL! just applied the silicone on, the epoxy set up very well adhered very good underneath that is gorilla glue, also one thing I will recommend if anyone else does this that on the clam shell make sure you take the rubber out first before splitting the 2 halves because I didn't but i'm still pretty confident it will be leak free will be trying it out as soon as it the silicone sets up!

well all I can say is SUCCESS! NOT A DROP INSIDE! very happy went out for 2 hours in a pond not far from me got a couple of pennies a bullet couple of ear rings and fishing sinker LOL!

Hey Brandon what size coil is on your Compadre? And also is it evenly balanced well while in the water? Man I think it's cool!! What kind of rod setup are you using I couldn't tell from your pictures!! Either way congrats on your success!!

Hey junior its a 5"75 coil its a strait rod set up I got from a another forum member waltwit well its intention was to use a connector to go through clam shell but I cheated with the compadre instead of opening up the control head and unsoldering I decided to take a chance on cutting a slit just big enough through to squeeze cable through plus had to cut the clam shell in half as well, now the one thing that it has is a lot of buoyancy but it really doesn't bother me because I hunt in knee deep to chest high water and dive for the target don't like long handled scoops so this ideal for me just make sure your hand sand scoop has smaller holes then I 've got because I had a hard time sometimes retrieving because stuff would filter through

great it worked! just take a closer look from time to time, the cord's movement may open a gap on the silicon

oh yes we'll keep it monitored will probably keep a Velcro band up close so it can't move that much from out of the box
