Water machine

I'm thinking about adding another machine to my collection and am considering a water machine.
Any comments or suggestions?
PI vs VLF?
I'll be doing mostly fresh water, but I could be on the west coast this summer so will the VLF work in the saltwater?
Thanx

A PI machine will drive you absolutely bonkers in and around fresh water, there is just way too much junk.

If your going to be on the salt water beaches and in the fresh water as well, an Excalibur or a CZ would be my choice.

BCOOP

Don't forget the Tesoro Tiger Shark, good reports about this unit for both fresh and beach water hunting.

Check it out before you make a decision

I have read many of the posts but I guess I was looking more for personel preferences.
Like I had a Garrett but I didn't like the way the machine was balanced.
When I went to the website where you can read reviews, most people seem to praise the machine they bought.
As an example, I like my GTI2500, but its kinda heavy and I get tired if I have to swing it for more than a hour or two.
My V3i is a fantastic machine, but it does have a pretty steep learning curve.
I have never owned a water machine nor have I ever water hunted so I was looking for what people liked/disliked about their machines.
I'll be hunting probably 90% fresh water, though I will be going to the pacific ocean this summer on vacation so I will be in salt water occasionally.
I won't be scuba diving, just wading in.
I guess that brings another question to mind.
Is there a sweet spot for finding things when you just wade in the water?
And I guess I'm mostly refering to smaller lakes wher people swim. Would it be in 1,2,3 or more feet of water.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

,?????????? how did this come up twice???

Because their twice as good.

Gabb i Like my Garrett Sea Hunter for a PI unit, The Elemination is Like a Disc on a VLF unit, I have a Garrett AT-Pro for a VLF unit and all around
it will be a good water Detector also, Mickfin

Fresh water, I love the Tesoro Tiger shark, but if you think you'll be doiing salt a lot, the the excaliber is hard to beat. I have both and live around fresh water and tend to reach for the Tesoro most of the time.

That is true that excal users dig everything genarally. However, the Excal nulls the iron well and as we all know, gold comes in many varieties, so there is not much time wasted there. It is unfortunate about their customer service and the prices they charge for some repairs. However as stated earlier, if it's fresh water, I like the Tiger, as I set it just above Bobby pin and dig all anyway. Plus, Tesoro service and lifetime guarentee is hard to beat!

I do like the VLF Tesoro water unit. Always mix up if it's the Tiger or Sand Shark (it's the one that isn't the PI unit) because it's been years since I owned one. Nicely built and I like how the batteries come out and it seals and everything. The Excal is heavy, so I would probably opt for the Tesoro in fresh water but not salt where it isn't going to keep up with the Excal.

Actually, if I wanted a water unit for my fresh water hunting I'd probably buy an AT Pro, because it has more features and an LCD screen so it could be used as a backup on land or when I'm in the mood to swing faster on land. It's light and with the LCD screen and features it's just as comfortable on land as any other land machine. In fact, some people buy it only to use on land. Respectable machine that is good in iron and trash from what I hear, though not quite as deep as some of the other top of the line land units out there. You simply can't beat the price of that AT Pro either in terms of a water machine, although the Tesoro I don't think (been a while since I bought mine) isn't priced all that high either.

I do my water hunting by wading with my Sovereign GT chest mounted near my left shoulder. Works well enough for me to not really see a need for a waterproof machine, unless I wanted to go deeper than about my belly button, which is about as deep as I dare go with it.

I just ordered a shark. I don't like how delicate LCDs are . I have a scratch on the Deleon readout and a whole clean thru the outer lense on the quattro. Slap me if I buy another delicate detector.
