Water machine for inland lakes?

coach c

New member
I have been planning to pick up a Garrett Sea Hunter Monday. Now I am having second thoughts. Our lakes have either rock bottoms or hard clay like bottoms. Things do not sink deep like in the sand on the coast.

Am I messing up by purchasing a Sea Hunter since I will not be taking it to the coast? What is the best way to hunt in the water of lakes and rivers? Any advice to help me make this decision would be appreciated.....Coach

Sounds like your on the right track. If you want to set it down to dig you dont have to worry about it getting detroyed by the water like a normal land detector. Go for it, great machine for all the wet stuff. Its hard to dig and protect a detector from getting wet all at the same time.

Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

99% of my hunts are done on/in inland lakes. once you really learn a PI well, you begin to differentiate large targets from small targets, sometimes iron verses non iron targets, and the nice stable sound of round objects like rings and coins. The only time I use my non-PI detector is when I am either close to shore or in trashy, iron laden areas. Owning a PI is definitely an asset.
