Water Machine - Detector Pro Diver

Considering the purchase of a water machine. Narrowed it down to Detector Pro Diver, Tigershark, CZ-20 or Excaliber. Machine will be used for freshwater hunting most of the time with the occasional trip to the TX coast.

At this point I'm leaning toward the Diver but since I have never used one I'm concerned about its depth capability and ability to find smaller gold items such as chains.

Anyone who owns the Diver and one or more of these other detectors and uses them for freshwater hunting, primarily lakes I would appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks,

Keith

i have never used any of those mentioned, but if the tiger shark has any improvements on my old sting ray, it can't be beat. have found several small gold chains with mine. i hunt the water with little discrimination, so i get everything over small hair pins. in fact i had to get a scoop with smaller holes in it to keep from losing small ear rings. don't think you can go wrong with the tesoro. did have some problems with it at st. perersberg, fla. with the small rust flakes that were there on the beach. guess they came from out in the gulf when they pumped sand back to the beach. far as depth, no complaints there either, for i have used it relic and coin hunting also. hope you make the right choice, and happy hunting to you from central louisiana

The only problem I've had to overcome is pinpointing with the 11 in. coil and the thing goes so darn deep that water hunting can be difficult at times in the surf. Don't have too much experience yet so can't comment on small gold chains. I figure I'll sacrifice small gold chains for deep gold rings with many stones. :crylol::crylol: Good luck and I'm heading to St. Pete tomorrow until Friday. I'll let ya'll know how I do. therick

All the machines you listed would be good in fresh water. I have the diver and have used it in salt water with good results. The 1280 by fisher is a good machine as is the tesoro. I enjoy the head hunter because of the ease of having the controls and guts in the headset. I have found coins, charms, a couple of rings and small silver chains but no gold yet. It will pick up earring backs and small metal buttons. There is a little falsing right at the break line when a wave washes over the coil but submerged or out of the water it works great. Happy Hunting!

Keith,

I use the Detector Pro Diver (not the PI unit) I was looking for some kind of discrimination. I set it at #3 on the discrimination, this was Mr. Bill's recomendation and I can't complain about that setting. I just bought mine this spring and have used it probably six times. I use it in rivers and lakes. My oldest coin is 1920 mercury form a river abour 6" down in the river bed, I have also dug up numerous other silver coins. The unit gives you a pretty clear definition in sound between good and bad stuff. I have not found any gold, I did get a small kids cosmetic ring yesturday. The Diver is so light and easy to use I love it for the money. If I had more than double the money maybe I still would have started with this unit.
