Water in the USB Cap..

Sand Scoop

New member
I never had any problem with moisture in the battery compartment but last night I unscrewed the cap where you plug in the USB cable. Now I had the whole unit under water for part of the hunt so I check it every night and charge the battery. Opening the cap and there is a small amount of water in the bottom. I check the cap to be sure its snug before I go in the water ,I know it wasn't loose. So I figure I'd dab a little silicone grease on the threads and hopefully keep the water out. You might want to keep an eye on this to if your in the water..

condensation maybe?

The first time I use it in the water I had a little condensation in the battery compartment since then its been dry. I never thought of removing the cap until a few days ago and noticed a small amount of water. Since then I check it after I come back from the beach and its been dry.Maybe it could have been a build up of condensation..

I only checked the USB cap after I washed the detector off. I am guessing I did not give the water a chance to dry on the out side . But before yesterdays hunt I pulled the cover off and it was wet from water. I am pretty sure its comming from the washing off of the detector as I have not been able to get in the water due to the rought surf. I think this is an issue. While those contacts are plated gold I am thinking that the water can still wick down through.
