This has been an absolutely horrible year for me for metal detecting. It has rained almost nonstop all spring. If I was off work, it was either raining or the ground was water logged and impossible to dig (or FAR too easy LOL ). Typically, I have switched into beach and water hunting mode by this point of the year due to heat and the ground is getting too dry and hard to dig. But because of all the spring flooding, all the lakes around me are in flood stage. Anywhere from 10 feet to 30 feet above above normal!! To make it worse, the local COE managers arent releasing water and lake beaches are all closed through the end of September.

Its bad enough to make me want to take up fishing instead. I'l have to try to take a few more trips to the ocean beaches this year just to get in some water hunts.

I had about the same luck. Spring was late and soggy, i could pick coins with my fingers. Now things are better but i'm laid up with one thing after another.

10 to 30 feet...That's bad.


We're having similar here in the Chesapeake Bay but not to that extreme...the worse we've had is flood stage just about everyday for the last 60 days, That's 2 feet above normal. Lucky, I was out this winter and got a good jump on all of this high water, lighting, and bad winds. I guess the good is the swimmers have to stay closer to shore so the fresh drops will be in closer also... Got my first fresh drop of the year....Ice but a CZ...

On my area it has been dry. Finally got some rain but still over 5 inches below normal. Hot and humid like it was August. Went to the beach last week for four hours and found the grand sum of two quarters, two dimes and two nickels. No jewelry of any kind. Dug a bunch of beer cans on a beach where alcohol is not allowed. My year has been a real disappointment.

I never do real well during the Summer here. Crowds are down except for the weekends. The Tides seem to stay HIGH during most of the day keeping people in close....... so everyone is hunting a much smaller area. Recent drops tend to be picked up by who ever gets there first. More hunters ..... seems like 24/7 with the warm water and few drops.

I'm the exact opposite I use to fish all the time now I barely go except in the fall for tuna fish on fly rod!
