Water Detector Repair Question

New member
 I have an underwater metal detector that leaks a little bit around the cable connections to the control box. Does anyone know what kind of sealant or silicone they use to repair this? What do you handymen out there recommend I use? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, RDF

i assume you alredy replaced black O-ring/gasket for an orange one? and applied dielectric silicone grease? did not help?

 No, I have one of those Aquavision Pro detectors made by Treasure Hunter  It's a cheap machine. I'm going to fix it up and sell it and get a Whites or Garrett next time. I just need to know what kind of external sealant is good for keeping water out. Thanks, RDF :detecting:

I feel for you my brother!

I was about to commit the same mistake - to buy a cheap machine as my first MD. After reading posts of wise men on this Forum I realized that buying a cheap thing equals making a hole in the pocket. So I bought Surf PI PRO, in a little while upgraded to Dual Field (adding only $100 if not less) and now with five months of MDing under my belt I am still the happiest living soul.

Especially with my new straight shaft from Plugger! EKLMN!!!

I am truly sorry for your troubles!!

I did not want to hurt your feelings or put salt on your wounds! If I did it I apologize sincerely!

100% silicone sealant will provide a temporary fix to your problem, try any of the better brands of silicone.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

There is a glue known as "SHOE GOOP" that can be used as a waterproof sealer and sticks very well.

It is also sold as "Marine Goop", "Household Goop","Automobile Goop" etc. & etc.(I think it's all the same with different labels) I've used it on my kayak and no leaks!!!

Amazing stuff!!

GL&HH Friend,
