Water detecting

Well I think I may try it up to my knees tomorrow morning. Here are some questions. How much junk should I expect? What type of junk will it be? It's a small freshwater beach. Beach junk is usually foil, pop tops, and juice bags. I figure I'll only have 3-4 feet of territory from the shoreline to where I'll stop. Is this usually prime territory? How deep will I be detecting? How deep are items? Can I expect coins? It will be diiifferent. I'm gonna rig up a homemade scoop and I'll order one for next year. Any help always appreciated?

I will tie the detector around my neck and use the arm band which I rarely do. I'll also max length the swing arm. I'll post results.

Unless you have an extension cable you won't be tying the head to your neck. I would recommend the relic mode. Dig all you beeps - one way beeps too. You will probably run a 50/50 ratio of trash to treasure. Here's a picture of my 250 waterproof detector I made.

Started out at the park playground. 76 modern coins for $6.99. Had I known I would have looked for one more. Hoping for gold, found a little .925 silver ring. 2-3 grams. Nice shape. Precious ring streak at 10 out of 11 hunts. I did find a gold plated ring on the other day so maybe I'll call it 11 out of 11. 1.5 hours.

Then to the beach. Suit on. Homemeade scoop in hand. Nice warm water. First hit scoop breaks. I manage to recover 11 hits with the broken scoop in an hour. Cu penny, nickel, dime, 2 quarters all modern. 3 lead sinkers, an old orange bottle cap, a washer that had me pretty excited when I saw the flash, and an ace bandage clip. Just like you said 50/50 mix if you count modern coins as treasure, which I do. I lost one thing which moved out to deeper water as I tried to scoop it. Had a blast and will surely try it again. Thanks for the tips and encouragement.

Now I have a nice clean detector which is still functioning at 100 percent. I am taking the weekend off from detecting, I hope. I need to get some chores done which I have been neglecting. My fingers, feet, and knees are killing me too and need a break.

No photos needed. Nothing you all haven't seen before.

Good luck this weekend gang. I'm sure the first gold ring somebody posts will drive me back out.
