Timeline: 1579 Sir Francis Drake sailed up the Pacific Northwest Coast and named the entire region New Albion.....He was also eaten by albino head hunters so go figure...

1775 Spain laid claim to the area.... Damn it, that's why everyting has a spanish and english label at the supermarket.

1792 Many of our state landmarks were named by Captain George Vancouver....who the hell was he to hand out names anyway? Captain Robert Gray explored the lower reaches of the Columbia River, just because he wanted to.

1805-06 Lewis and Clark expedition explored the Northwest and reached the Pacific Ocean at the mouth of the Columbia River....damn Easterners were invading our area even before we had a chance to get here.

1818 Fort Walla Walla built by the North West Company. This enabled the United States to claim joint occupance of the Oregon Territory with England... I thought we kicked them outa here some 30 years earlier...

1819 Spain gave the United States any and all rights claimed by Spain to the Oregon country.Very big of them to since they didn't live here.

1846 Oregon Territory became a part of the United States when the United States and Great Britain agreed to the 49th parallel as the northern U.S. boundary...Go ahead, give them the far north, it's mostly frozen all year anyway, good trade!

1848 Oregon Territory was established with Washington as the northern part of the territory.... It's pronounced Or-gun not Or-E-Gon, get it right....

1853 Washington Territory, separate from Oregon, was created. Isaac Stevens was the first territorial governor.... he wasn't good enough to be state Governor so he had to settle for a general territory instead.

1863 Idaho Territory was created from part of the Washington Territory. and what did they get ou of it....Idaho, the potato state.

1889 Washington admitted to the United States on November 11 as the forty-second state. Elisha Ferry was the first elected governor of Washington State and soon forgotten.

1941 Grand Coulee Dam completed....It's a really big damn dam...and then the salmon died off...

1980 Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18th...burying several dozen idiots who's last words were...Volcano....Shmalcano I don't care let her blow....I can take it!
