Be sure to check the Districts Federal Park laws. Here in Michigan you can detect the National Forests, as long as it's for current coins and jewelery, and you follow basic common sense about filling your holes.

I remember seeing a post somewhere a while back about a DC md'er , and he was making some pretty nice finds out in the woods around there , don't remember exactly where . Find some private property and ask away , you're in a hotspot for sure .
