Washer?

tab-nabit

Well-known member
Well I usually empty the junk pouch on one of my backyard tables, then sweep it over in a garbage bin. But this time the wife eyeballed the junk and picking stuff up for a quick look, spotted one of the junk washers that got her attention. She took it in and later in the day, after dinner, she showed me the junk washer I was throwing out. Guess I need better glasses or at least take a second look at those dirty washers - lesson learned

Nice trade token.

No telling how many things we have thrown away.

You should look cloosely.............Me Tooo.....

HH,

Always examine your trash. 99% of time it is just that - trash. But as you learned yesterday, there is that 1%

I dump all my trash into a large bucket and when it fills, I have the chance to examine it one last time before tossing.

Where is the token from?

It's neato!

Presently there are only a few places around here that generate tokens.
And only three I can think of that roll a penny.

Wonder where a mint is that makes 'em for sale?

That is a trade token. Years ago they were common, not now.
I doubt you'll find then in use any longer, since the coins we carry around are little more than tokens themselves. Back then, a store or mercantile or barber - what have you, would give them as promos or in exchange for goods. Often you could buy them, like bus tokens, to be excahnged later.
Private minting houses abound making all sorts of stampings, so I'm sure you can get them if you want them. Chuck E. Cheese seems to be able to get them, so should you.

I've caught myself doing just what you did. Hard to tell how much good stuff has gone into the trash. The first large cent I ever found I dropped in my junk pouch and only saw it wasn't a washer because I emptied the pouch in the sunlight. But you were lucky, someone caught it! Nice first & second recovery!

I don't know RMPTR - does not indicate enough information to tell me where it's from.
I really thought it was just another washer but should have gave it a little washing and inspection, but unless a slight rubbing indicates something other than a washer, it usually goes into the junk pouch then to the trash can. Kind of gives me thoughts of checking washers maybe a second time real quick.
I know nothing about tokens and most I found were from Chuck E Cheese and golf driving range.
Some of the others I found that have "No Cash Value" on them were from General Park Family Fun Center, Aladdin Castle Party Place, and Turners Car Wash, and a few others I don't recall because I threw them out.
Most tokens were in such sad condition that I threw them out.
Here are the tokens that came out in good condition and cleaned up well - I had been told they are not worth anything but I kept them anyway.

Not worth anything?

Gosh, Tab... Those are neato!

I've never seen all the different kinds of holes punched in 'em before.

I think they are interesting!

We sometimes get the old chinese cash coins around here, but they also have little value.
They are really old, but there were so many of them made over centuries they get little attention.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Super Nice tokens. Speaking of washers, a few years ago my bro and I were working this old ranch site. My bro kept getting an overload signal at the base of an old cottonwood. After about the 3rd day he decided to dig it up. About 6" down there was a fruit cake sized circular tin. Disgust was our first thought , then my bro noticed it was wired shut with wire. As he was lifting it out of the hole we heard the sound of coins jingling. We both about had a cardiac. We almost ran to the truck. Wire cutters made quick work of the wire. My bro looked at me, took a deep breath and open the tin. It was full of nothing but washers!!!

Hey Tab-nabit,

I looked at the California token website...

That's a $3 washer you got there according to the site. Probably more, now.

You never truly know unless you dig and check. I'll do a second check on washers that are dirty from now on.

Since I seen your reply, I did a little on-line search on tokens. I didn't have any idea at the various types of tokens, and saw several that really did look neato.
I guess I never gave it much thought before. Now I'll be doing a double check whenever I think it's just another dirty washer. I won't use the token as a 3 dollar washer.
Now I'll never know if I threw out some tokens in the past that I took as just another washer. All except the obvious will get a second look from now on.
Thanks for the wake-up RMPTR, makes me appreciate them more instead of thinking "just another piece of junk" - wonder if I tossed some in the past
