didn't want to pose at all. Finally stopped for a few seconds and grabbed this shot. Not much of a picture but I'm geared up for the next one that comes thru.... Don't seem to be as many of them this year as in past years. Looks like we have storms clouds gathering to the west of us. We can use the rain so hope we get them. Second cutting of hay will be pretty skimpy if we don't. Geo
son got Jane on mothers day. The butterflys that I have seen I have seen are often on it. I was ready to do just that, shoot a lot of pictures for one good one. That was the first and last and it was gone. Didn't even get a chance to focus. Have not seen one Monarch
this year either. If any thing good, the deer flies were only hear a short time maybe 2 or 3 weeks and then seem to be gone. No big loss there. Jane sure hates them out on the horses..... They take the fun out of summer riding. Lot of deer and turkeys around for sure. I'm thinking they will make the turkey season longer this fall and up the quota on them. They really compete with the deer here for feed. When they get done with and area it looks like it was raked. Not unusual to have 3 or 4 groups of them in the yard right now
in the morning. Big broods of little ones.....
I had 50 pictures of them fluttering around the flowers. That one only had a lay over of about 1 second and was gone in a flash. I may have spooked it also as I had just come out the door. When they stop I can usually get them.
Here are a couple that did......... Plenty of warm weather yet, so I will get some. They are saying this is our warmest summer on record with 21 days so far that made it to 90 or better. Be fine with me if they cut the temps in half and gave us the other half temps in the winter...
Those are some good pictures! The only good bug picture that I took that was half way acceptable was a catapiller photo...they move slow and I finally got it's picture. I can be "happy" knowing that you folks are getting some good pictures. George, keep up the good work, you are well on your way. Kelley (Texas)
on insects can be hard for sure. Depth of field is pretty small in those modes.... I've had leaves behind and ahead of them really sharp in focus and not the insect..... Tricky to get ti right but when you do its really enjoyable. I practice on coins, they sure don't move, and even them its amazing how small that nice sharp window area is.... I think it kinda goes like the engineers used to say on the job. If you put enough of them in, one is bound to be useful.... This was on concrete inserts on concrete forms for latter attaching what ever needed to be. They called it Shotgun Engineering.... Made sense later when I saw what they were trying to attached in that area with a million different possibilities....
I hope that the folks on that new forum comes over here and sees the beautiful bug photos on this slide show. I wish that I had your talent and could take pictures like these. You did outstanding! Kelley (Texas)
We just got a ton of rain in the last two days... it lowered the fire hazard significantly... and a good second cutting looks to be a real possibility now.
Lots of pictures with different settings. Eventually a good one will show up and you will think, "Now, just what the hell did I do to get that picture?" I can never remember
I've done a few slide shows with the free programs but before I can learn them well, they expire. I'm not good at staying focused for long periods of time. Me things my attention has adapted to the TV timeline. Every 10 minutes need a comerical or something new to see or do. How far are you from Niagara Falls?. When we were there that was a live butterfly house and a bird house full of exotic birds and butterflys. What a spot for you to go. They were putting bananas out to attract them for the tourist. Ended up spending and afternoon there, that much to see. Wish that had one in this area, it was really interesting a lot of exotic ones from South America....
I need to spend some time with the movie camera software also. Yours are looking great..mine, not so good......
You were blessed with a mind that is quick to analyze something and then apply the knowledge to practical applications. When combined with your natural ability to produce fantastic pictures, your slide shows are outstanding and enjoyable to view. That being said, I have a long row to hoe to produce a slide show of the same quality as yours, but I am still trying to do so.
Once this heat wave goes away, I will be hitting the road again, and then will start producing a few slide shows. I want to explore Yorktown, Texas first chance that I get. There is an old hospital there that some claim is haunted and might make a good story for the Forum. The town is old and there are lots of history that I can write about. It would be an excellent town to tell about by way of a slide show. Just a matter of time and I will be posting it, but this time I will follow your advice and use YouTube in presenting it to the Forum. Fred Kelley
